If we did that the Flag would have been at half staff for almost the entire 4 years of this war.

Imagine everytime you look a ta flag its at half staff for 4 years.

The repugs dont want us to see dead bodies or flag draped caskets.

They would never want to see the flag at half staff for 4 years.
A constant reminder everytime you go to work or lunch.
Thats why

I don't believe that the flag should have been flown at half-staff nationwide for the tragedy at virginia tech. This was a local catastrophe. There was no such order for flags to be flown nationwide after hurricane Katrina, nor after the shootings at the high school in Jonesboro, Arkansas. I'm not saying that the order should be given when a soldier/airman/sailor/marine is killed in the war either. I would hope to think that the honor would take place in the hometown of the hero.
I am not a soul-less person. I just feel that, though it was a tragedy, it was a local tragedy. I can understand the flag being lowered throughout the state of Virginia, but not the country. These were college students who have not earned the right to be honored nationally. If the governor of a state passed away today, would he also be honored nationally? I think not. What's next? Lowering the flag for the A-list celebrities? God I hope not!

Probably because the flag would then be perpetually flown at half-staff. He's right that soldiers' deaths have lost their shock value. But if the flag was lowered for every soldier's death, would people be more aware of the war or would flying the flag at half-staff simply lose it's significance?
