The MacGyver2008 is in full swing. I recommend that all MacGyver supporters go with a MacGyver/Paul ticket. Since MacGyver was born in Canada, he will not be eligible to run, but can endorse Mr. Paul.

This is a total sak/dt campaign, and it's our last hope.

There is no "blind faith" about it, unless you are calling Milton Freedman, Ludwig Von Mises, Frederick von Hayek, and the entire study of praxeology/economics...blind. But whatever Fagin Jim, you just keep teaching the children how to pick-pockets and I'm sure society will be off.

# Jim S Says:
July 15th, 2007 at 6:55 pm

The one thing I’ve never heard a clear answer on from the Ron Paul fanatics is just what would be left of the federal government if they had their way.

........................................

That would be a Constitutional Republic....
self-determination....
more money for your family and your health care...
Freedom...

The federal government is nothing but bureaucracy and a redundant wast of money at best. At worst it's become the worst nightmare of a sleeping society...
Just watch his speeches and interviews and you'll see he's our best hope....

The problem, of course is the blind faith that says that everything will be just hunky dory once the evil "New Deal" is destroyed. We won't produce grinding poverty on the part of many like the joys of the Victorian Era, oh no. I'm always fascinated by those who think that just because Dickens wrote novels that the society he wrote about must have been made up out of whole cloth. Somehow they think that the free market is just so magical that it will cure, if not all ills, enough to leave it up to private charities to fix what's left. Of course this has never, ever happened in history. It's just that the poor were pretty much ignored most of the time and thus are invisible in the minds of those who believe in certain myths.

Jim - It will not be possible to completely dismantle the New Deal overnight. The golem will have to be dispossessed of power through coordinated legislative attrition and that will take some time. Paul is not popular because of a radical agenda, but because he is a principled politician. I think Paul says it well:

We cannot continue to allow private banks, wasteful agencies, lobbyists, corporations on welfare, and governments collecting foreign aid to dictate the size of our ballooning budget. We need a new method to prioritize our spending. It’s called the Constitution of the United States.

Neither DosPeros nor michael have answered the question.

As I understand it if he really got what he wanted there would be no FDA, EPA, OSHA, IRS (Lots of luck funding the military without that. Looked at their budget lately?), Department of Energy, Department of Education, FEC, FCC, FTC, USPS or Federal Reserve. Did I miss anything he wants to eliminate?

Well, of course I did because so far as I understand the only things left would be the military and its affiliated, the FBI, the judiciary, legislature and executive branch. Would there be a VA or would it be a case of thanks and lots of luck out there?

And then of course the states would gain all sorts of new rights. Basically they could do anything they wanted for the most part, am I correct? Any association with religion shy of declaring an official state church is OK and any laws based on that association is also alright no matter what restrictions on religious minorities might be involved. It's OK so long as it's not the federal government doing it.

I am man! He's my horse. Ron is fantastic in almost every single way. I've been swamped with business lately so I'm been a little lackluster in terms of political obnoxiousness. Part of my evolving fantasy involves a President Ron Paul...the rest of it involves Dianna Rigg in leather and a bear skin rug. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpoHhTb34pM

The nation is secure Dianna!

By the way, Dos...what do you think about Paul? I would have thought you'd be pulling for him a lot more strongly.

The U.S. Constitution and the enumerated powers of the federal government, Jim. That is about it and the sooner the better.

Given the recent accomplishments of the Federal Government...
pre-emptive war, sanctioned torture, domestic spying, war-profiteering, soaring executive privilege, secrecy, demagoguery, and an enormous bill to pay for it all...

Hopefully not much.
