Donklephant Hacked. One Month’s Worth Of Content Gone.
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in BloggingAll in all I think we got off easy, and I’m working on getting it all restored, but Jake Dahn of Hyperbole Design really helped us out in one of our darkest hours yet. He did what the admins over at Media Temple couldn’t do, and I can’t thank him enough.
So yeah, from September 8 to October 19 is just gone right now. Hopefully we’ll get it back up soon. I’ll know by tomorrow if that’s possible, and if it is we’ll only have lost a few days at most. If not, well, at least we have this. Fingers crossed, though.
Oh, and thanks to Joe Gandelman for posting over at The Moderate Voice about the attack.
More soon…
UPDATE:
The blog is going to be quiet for a period of time while we work to get that month’s worth of content back. I should know by Sunday if it’s doable. If not, we’ll just start from here and go without the content. But for now you won’t see many posts today or tomorrow.
Thanks!

Hi, I heard over from The Moderate Voice about the attack. As a fellow site owner, I just wanted to say we all feel your pain and hope you’re able to recover quickly. Any suggestions for those of us on the alert about how we can help prevent another attack from succeeding?

Use Google Cache to get the entries back.

I noticed that, don’t worry about it–nothing to stress over. You might try to tighten up your security a bit though. Goddamn Turkish Hackers, I tell ya! :D

Good to see you back, Justin. Kinda thought it was something like that. I’d noticed problems with other sites also, though nothing as thorough as what happened to you. Hope all the are ironed out.

I clicked here when it happened. It was that Islamic jihadist hacker group out of Turkey.
Justin, what did you do to them that would cause such frustration amongst them to want to hack your site? We need to get to the root causes of their actions. If you want to prevent this from happenning again, I would suggest that you change the content of your website, or change your blogging policies. There needs to be more dialogue, stop being so oppressive.

Jimmy, always there to lend a hand at a time of need. We love you Jimmy! stop fighting it, join the hippie circle of love and let’s all love one another.

Glad to see you back in operation. Good luck retrieving the content. A few of my posts got lost, I’ll be happy to repost if you think it makes sense. It’ll also give me a chance to modify them with preemptive strikes for the Jeremy and Jimmy commentary I already know is coming.

Once again I am getting “downloader virus” and “access denied” messages coming out of this post.
Justin, I think you need look at things closer to home. One thing which is always a concern for me – and is the main reason why you will never see any on my own page – is the possibilities given an “advertiser” to disseminate his c!!p through an innocent outlet such as this.
Given that the last crash was preceded by similar messages, I am hoping (and holding my breath) that when I check in next this page will still be here.
One thing it ain’t is Jimmy. He is just too dimmy to qualify.
