Ron Paul Polling At 8% Nationally As 3rd Party Nominee

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found Hillary Clinton leading Rudy Giuliani by three percentage points in a four-way race that includes Ron Paul running as a Libertarian candidate and Ralph Nader representing the Green Party. The poll shows Clinton earning 42% of the vote while Giuliani attracts 39%. Ron Paul is the choice for 8%, Ralph Nader is preferred by 4% and 7% are not sure.Perhaps because of his position on the War in Iraq, Paul attracts more support from Democrats than Republicans. He also earns 14% of the vote from unaffiliated voters. Paul is currently seeking the Republican Presidential Nomination and is running sixth behind Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain, Fred Thompson, and Mike Huckabee.
People, at this point in the game, 8% is huge and 14% of unaffiliated voters is even bigger because you know there’s a lot of ground he could gain in that group once they start to hear his message. I bet he could pull 20% nationally overall and start a viable Libertarian movement in this country.
Also, it is interesting that this poll shows that Paul is pulling more from Dems than Repubs, but my guess about that is those aren’t far-left, socialist Dems. You’re probably talking about your moderate Liberaltarians who favor more freedom at home and less imperalism abroad. I know if it were between Hill, Rudy and Paul, I’d definitely consider voting for Ron.
So then, not to sound like a broken record on this, but if all you Paulites really want to upset the apple cart in November 2008, trying to win the GOP nomination doesn’t seem the way to do it.

Neither does losing as a 3rd party with 20%, Perot did just as well and i don’t see a Reform party active where i live.
He’s doing well running for the GOP, is gaining traction daily and we haven’t even had 1 primary yet, lets see how we do in NH before we talk about consigning ourselves to losing and running as a 3rd party.

Good sign, but either way, we’re going to win the GOP primary, RP has stated REPEATEDLY, TIME AND TIME AGAIN that he will not run on a third party ticket.

That’s great and all, but there’s another 8%, and it’s called the New Hampshire Primary. And knowing the GOP polling… that’s probably 20% in reality.

We aren’t trying to “upset the apple cart” we are trying to win.
Getting 20% in the general doesn’t win the election. In fact he could achieve a plurality but fail to get enough electoral votes and still lose if it gets tossed into the house.
3rd party candidates cannot win in this country without IRV. Ron Paul is no exception.

Let’s face it, Justin. Your chances of getting Ron Paul on a third party ticket are about as great as the chances that his supporters & I have of getting you off the subject - zero. And why should he switch from the GOP? His success so far & the attention from the MSM have been because he is running as a Republican. What, switch, & lose all that press, not to mention his credibility? Gimme a break!

Be careful what you wish for. Policywise, a Ron Paul presidency could be the final thing that tips the country farther left than even I would like to see it go.
Paul is bright and has some appealing positions and interesting things to say. Unfortunately, succeeding as a president requires much more than that. Just ask Jimmy Carter.
Regarding a third-party run by him or anyone, forget about it. All those are good for is spoiling. The only way a third party will ever succeed is by growing up slowly, from the grass roots — state legislatures, governorships, House and Senate seats. Then in a few years, after the third party has earned a solid, competitive reputation with the electorate nationwide, it’s presidential candidate might stand a chance not only of getting elected, but of governing with some hope of success.

The message is spreading faster than you can blog or attempt to make Dr. Paul look bad. I like his consistancy and when people give him a “loaded” question he can fire right back answer without hesistation. He has absorbed the constitution into his heart and mind. So in saying that, many have forgotten that our freedom was payed for in blood and that the constitution was precisely written to give life, liberty, and happiness to all. Remember, Its constitution day every, read it, live it, love it :)

I wish I had a dollar each time one of these statements are made where no facts are offered or even specific reasoning as to why Dr. Paul’s policies would move us to the left or the right. You people need to put down your autographed pictures of Sean Hannity for one minute and actually look at his positions.
What policies? Social Security, Health Care, Abortion, Gun Rights, Foreign, Economic, Immigration.

What if, After the Primaries (if he looses), Ron Paul would through his support to a different 3rd party candidate. This might just as easily start a new vibrant quasi-libertarian movement. The problem is, who might this person be ? The movement is not about Ron Paul, but there are few others that have the credibility to pull it off.
Also, the movement must be defended from its more radical supporters. That is the radical libertarians that start talking about privatizing the road systems, and the court systems, etc. THis is what keeps the current LP at 2%

Paul would have never got this far if he was running as a Libertarian. No one would know who he was. You can only compete if you’re a Republican or Democrat. It’s stupid to run for president as a Libertarian. Thankfully, Paul learned his lesson.

In spite of all that, let me offer a little perspective.
If Ron Paul can’t or won’t attract the top-5-percent fatcats, excite the evangelicals and generate ongoing fear of some external bogeyman threat, there’s no way he’s going to win the GOP nomination, I don’t care if netroots bring in $25 million or even $50 million in donations for him.

Freedom is a tune we can all dance to, why are people so negative. Heck, if he were republican, democrat, libertarian, or say had no group or party affiliation: I would vote for him for the simple fact that he follows the law, is honest, and can not be bought. The freedom he is defending was already paid for in Blood and people seem to dishonor that. Greed is what it all boils down too, Im sorry if the media machine has fed enough poisen to brainwash ideals into people for agenda. If you dont think this has an effect on you, go put gas in your car, or buy a 5$ gallon of milk.
WE THE PEOPLE, do have a voice, freedom will not falter, and Ron Paul is our next president. You dont think freedom can win>? Hmm, 1776: the odds against us, yet freedom prevailed. Independence and freedom took place. THink about it. Take a stand :)

Ron Paul is going to win the Election.
I feel Ron Paul is the only hope for America and never wanted to see any politician win as bad as i want to see Paul in the White house.
However, I DO NOT want to see Ron Paul run as a 3rd party. All that will do is ensure a Hillary Clinton victory which is worse than death.
Ron Paul for GOP nomination or Bust. No 3rd party.

Clinton’s not my first choice, but she’s plenty smart and capable of doing a good job. Given that we currently are suffering through the last year of the worst president in U.S. history, so that how bad bad gets is fresh in mind, rest assured that on her worst day Clinton as president would be a vast improvement.
