Trent Lott Will Resign
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in General Politics, RepublicansI guess he’s had enough.
The announcement took Capitol Hill by surprise because Lott, the former majority leader, seemed to be relishing his job, the second-ranking GOP leadership job.He had regained a post in leadership after he resigned following racially insensitive remarks at a birthday party for the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.). [...]
Lott would be the sixth Republican senator to announce plans to step down this election cycle. His term expires in 2012; and a resignation would prompt a special election to fill the remainder of his term.
I still can’t believe he weathered that Strom Thurmond comment. He lasted a lot longer than he should have.
Still, this doesn’t mean Dems will pick his seat up. This is Mississippi after all, and even after those dumb comments he won reelection with 64% of the vote.

The general assumption is that he’s trying to beat the anti-lobbying laws for former members of Congress, which kick in the first of next year. You can;t blame a man for trying to put food on his family.

Good, but he should be serving a prison instead.
