Iowa Caucus Post Mortem - Obama Wins, Edwards Loses, Hillary Weakened

This from Marc Ambinder:

REVOLUTION FOR CHANGE BEGINS? ON STRENGTH OF NEW CAUCUS GOERS, YOUNG VOTERS AND INDEPENDENTS…..OBAMA WINS DEMOCRATIC CAUCUSES……..CLINTON BRACES FOR PRESS BACKLASH…..EDWARDS CAMPAIGN SPINS RESULTS AS REPUDIATION OF STATUS QUO.

** Obama beats Clinton among women and men ** Late deciders throw support to Obama, Edwards ** 41% of Obama’s caucus goers were new ** 51% of change voters chose Obama ** Edwards third among union voters

Obama beats Clinton among women? Wow. Edwards only takes 3rd with union voters? Double wow.

Also, more than 220,000 Dems came to caucus, compared with about 90,000 Repubs. That’s a HUGE difference, and could speak to how disenchanted the mainstream GOP voter is with their selection.

In any event, the big night on the Dem side definitely helped Obama. This is the night that Howard Dean was counting on in 2004, but it never happened. Obama and his team came through, but can he repeat it in New Hampshire?

UPDATE:
The woman who’s introducing Obama says that she has never been beholden to just one party. This isn’t a politician, just a person.

People, this is a brilliant strategy. They’re putting the Independent on the stage and making them the story, the reason why Obama won.

Edwards loses and Hillary is weakened? It’s all in the perspective..

Edwards 2nd is a victory from where he has been all along. Hillary lost and big!
However, as experience teaches us, this is a snapshot of a bigger picture. Things could topple again after NH and Carolina.
