CNN Poll Shows Democrats Tie In Texas

“One reason the race appears to be tight is that Texas Democrats are having a hard time choosing between two attractive options,” says CNN polling director Keating Holland.“Likely Democratic primary voters would be equally happy if either candidate won the nomination, and they don’t see a lot of difference between them on several top issues.
“Roughly a quarter of likely voters say they could change their minds in the next two weeks — and not surprisingly, those people are splitting roughly equally between Clinton and Obama.”
The biggest issue here is Hillary needs to win Texas in a big way in order to make up ground in the pledged delegate chase. Her team can’t like these numbers, and so maybe that’s why we’re seeing more negative attacks?

Just like he was ahead in Hew Hampshire. And just like he had pulled ahead at the last moment in some polls in California. I’m an Obamanite, but I’ll count my chickens when my eggs hatch.

This old bag (HRC) needs to go.

It’s even more complex than that with the rules for apportioning delegates that Texas uses.

Indeed. Really, for Obama at this point, its just about making it close. I deally he can win somehow. But even if he cant - if he can keep it within 8-10 points, he’s ok. He just cant get blown out. If he holds Hillary to wins of under 15-20% in the last big 3 states, he’ll win barring superdelegates stealing this election - which I dont see happening.

One element the people who come up with the stats may not have figured is that Texas has an open primary. Republicans can vote in the primary for democrats…… and they will. In fact many people are encouraging the republicans to vote for Obama simply because we hate Hillary so much.

More recent Survey USA poll released Feb 18th shows HRC by 5 points in TX. The CNN poll is the only one within the margin so far - it is old. Why are the cables recycling this old news?

Justin, what are your thoughts on these polls in general at this point? It seems like there has been a pretty big gap between polling prior to the primaries and the actual results. Just seems hard to believe that Obama isn’t going to enjoy the same mass support that he’s been seeing elsewhere….
