Bloomberg Ain’t Running

I wonder what Doug Bailey and Gerald Rashfoon are gonna do now?

NEW YORK – After two years of playing coy about his presidential ambitions, Mayor Michael Bloomberg declared in a newspaper editorial Wednesday that he will not run for president as an independent and said he might support the candidate who “takes an independent, nonpartisan approach.”

The 66-year-old billionaire businessman, who aides had said was prepared to spend $1 billion on his own independent campaign, wrote in an opinion column posted on the New York Times’ Web site that he will be working to “steer the national conversation away from partisanship and toward unity; away from ideology and toward common sense; away from sound bites and toward substance.”

Honestly, I think we’re going to have a candidate like that on both sides of the debate this year, and that should hearten many.

Well. That is really annoying. I am 80% done with a lomg post explaining why he should run and how he could bankroll a winning ticket. What am I supposed to do with that post now?

Maybe he is angling to be McCains VP and throw a billion into tht campaign. They’ll need it.

Bailey and Rashfoon have got to be considered lepers by the political establishment at this point. They sure can make pretty websites, but don’t appear to have freaking clue about launching a real grass roots political movement.

Bloomberg needed a Clinton v. Romney constest in order to have a unique message. Even then, it would have been a longshot campaign. Now, with McCain already the nominee (all but officially) and Obama nearing his party’s nomination, what does Bloomber have to offer? He’s smart not to waste his money.

    You nailed it, Alan!
