As most of you know, I supported Howard Dean in 2004. Since then he’s turned into a disappointing, tired political hack. And this latest attack on Republicans is just beyond the pale.
The Chairman of the Democratic National Committee and former Governor of Vermont contrasted the two parties’ presidential candidates, saying that with a woman and an African-American as the two front-runners, the Democratic field “looks like America,†while the all-white male Republican field “looks like the 1950s and talks like the 1850s.â€
Yes, because there were so many viable Democratic candidates in 2004 who weren’t white males. What an intellectually dishonest thing to say.
But the bigger point here is the 1850s quip. Because that can only suggest he thinks they’re somehow making slavery era racist comments. And sure, you have your political hacks out there on the right, but I haven’t heard word 1 from any of the Republican candidates that come anywhere close to what he’s suggesting. In fact, the most notable race-baiting lines in this campaign have come from Bill Clinton.
Basically, Howard Dean doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about, and I hope other Dems see this hackery and denounce it immediately. It would also be nice to see him replaced at the DNC. The guy is not a good spokesperson for Democrats in general. Not in the least.
