Randi Rhodes “Quits” Air America
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Hillary, Media, Partisan HacksShe called Hillary a “big f**king whore” live, and Air America suspended her. So instead of apologizing, she quit.
Folks, this was a liberal hack of the highest degree. At one time she even joked about assassinating Bush…she was literally that bad.
Now, I did listen to Air America when it first launched, and Al Franken could be amusing from time to time, but when Rhodes came on after his show, it was like nails on a chalk board. And people actually wondered why they were having financial problems? Please…
Here’s the official statement from Air America’s top brass:
Last week Air America suspended Randi Rhodes for abusive, obscene language at a recent public appearance in San Francisco which was sponsored by an Air America affiliate station.Air America Media was informed last night by Ms. Rhodes that she has chosen to terminate her employment with the company.
We wish her well and thank her for past services to Air America. We will soon announce exciting new talent.
Joe Gandelman notes the significance…
What’s most notable about this incident is that it shows that there is a line that can’t be crossed — particularly in a divisive election year.Vigorous, even controversial discussions or characterizations could spark denunciations but aren’t on the same level as name-calling swearing (even if, as some argued, it was done to be funny or even satirical).
It also underscores the changing nature of Air America, which started out as a company in which progressives had great hope that they could challenge the conservative talk radio’s dominance in the marketplace or, at the very least, checkmate it.. The company has since had problems, reorganized, and was sold. Its present programming is not quite as far to the left as it had been when it debuted amid great fanfare.
Goodbye and good riddance.

Have to agree with you about Randi Rhodes. She was just impossible to listen to. A left-wing version of Michael Savage.

Randi Rhodes was always pretty foul mouthed and crude and really didn’t set a good example as a progressive. She mixed up politcal commentary with crude humor. They aren’t the same and one taints the other.
Personally I am glad she is leaving.

define hack…
I’m of mixed mind on this one….Rhodes was not exactly my cup of tea. A little to loud, and yes, she could be pretty coarse at times, and I never thought she was particularly funny, but hack?
Hack, when it’s a writer, typically implies sloppy, inaccurate, maybe sensational–aside from the delivery, Rhodes seemed pretty dead-on target most of the time.
And who actually watched her “speech”? The way it was being played it was a a nasty rip into Ferarro and Clinton, but if you watch it, it was supposed to be some sort of comedy routine…not very funny, but not quite a nasty monologue of just name-calling.
Not much of a fan, but I think she was getting a bad rap.

As a listener to randi, unlike the people above, i have to say she was far from a hack. she was, and IS an encyclopedic dot connector who uncovered tons of facts about the world that hardly anybody would have noticed or understood, if not for her. I will admit her new york accent can be difficult to swallow at times, but that’s no big deal.
Her crack team of producers and investigative reporters found all sorts of soundbites from politicians contradicting themselves, as well as facts about corruption in our government that would turn the heads of even the most cynical.
as for mike savage, he is a man who speaks his talking points like a good puppet. he spews his hate, etc. he doesn’t bring any new or interesting information into the debate.
we are talking night and day here.

No! I think you got it wrong about Randi Rhodes … see will be missed and Air America will suffer. By quitting she proved what she believes in, The kind we all should strive to be … most americans can’t get their arms around things like Honesty, Integrity, Principled. We go along to get along, Shes’s not a whore like the rest of us… yes you are.

The best thing we can do is to put Randi Rhodes and Rush Limbaugh in a big cage. Strip ‘em naked, toss in two baseball bats and a can of Crisco, lock the door… and watch the fun.

When you say a radio personality said something “live”, people will assume you mean live on the air. Of course THAT’S NOT TRUE, but you don’t bother to clear that up, do you? Jerk. She was at a private, paid event, attended *only* by people who wanted to see here. Air America overstepped their boundaries.
You’re also lying when you said she joked about assassinating Bush. It was a taped comedy bit that she had no hand it whatsoever. Although it played on her show, she hadn’t heard it prior to it going on air, and didn’t approve it.
It really says something when you can’t smear someone with having to resort to lying.
