Bush Congratulates Obama On Securing The Nomination

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Bush, Democrats, Hillary

I just saw this on MSNBC’s front page and it got me to thinking…

Does anybody think it’s odd that the President has acknowledged that Obama is the presumptive nominee before Hillary has?

What’s more, I got a fundraising email from her last night. Here it is…

I’m sorry…but contribute for what?

I do think that speech last night will haunt her political career for years to come.

I’m beginning to wonder if she’s refusing to bow out simply in the hope that she’ll get people willing to help her with her debt.

  2. Rob in Denver Says:

I’ve stopped caring about the things I find odd about her campaign.

  3. Justin Says:

Well yeah she knows her campaign is over but she’s got millions in debt. She’s asking you to pay it off for her.

  4. acp Says:

I believe David. The whole thing seems like she wants one last fund raising push while its still allowed, to try and erase those personal loans. I’m surprised people haven’t been saying this, to be frank.

  5. MR Says:

Contribute to pay off her debt.

  6. Bob/Paul Says:

If it’s a last fundraising push to clear debt she wants, she should say that. When the other candidates dropped out, they made it clear that they were keeping their websites and mailing lists up merely for the purposes of retiring their dept and asked supporters to continue to donate for that reason.

She certainly wasn’t very clear, and people on her forums are still screaming that she still has a chance.

  7. wj Says:

Right. Let the little people help me retire all this debt. So I can keep my own millions. So Clintonian.

  8. Lord Truthiness Says:

She can pay off her own debt - we have all seen her tax records (most of them) The Clintons need to pay up, shut up, and go away.

Wouldn’t leaving them with false hope increase the chances that they’d donate, though?

Hilary for indendent candidate for president along side Barr of Georgia is what it sounds like to me/?? there is a website for her independent never ending campaign. I guess she wants to be the Nader of ‘08 with Nader of ‘08. Never. Never. Never give up. Is what Churchill said during the war to a graduating class. She says it after the battle/war is over. I also guess she is a true Clintonista and Not a Democrat. Cause People don’t give up, sort of like Bush won’t give up on Iraq, she won’t give up on campaigning. Forever Campaign!!!

It isn’t odd. Absent very large upsets in every state, the math has pointed to Obama being the winner for almost 3 months. The math was clear a week ago…Clinton had no way to catch up to Obama and the momentum was going his way to capture the uncommitted superdelegates, who were unlikely to vote against their constituents. Its a very simple political calculation, and it speaks volumes that the Republicans figured out who would be the nominee before the Democrats did.

  12. Obama-O-Rama Says:

A donation to the Hillary campaign at this point would just be a donation to Hillary’s bank account. None of the money she receives will be used to help Democrats win in November; it will just be used to pay off her massive debt. Hillary does not need to be rescued from debt, as Bill and her have the ability to make $25 million+ each year just from making speeches and writing books.

  13. Obama Says:

    Her Debt. Plain and simple.

  14. keg Says:

she won’t drop out of the race b/c she is trying to pressure obama to make her VP

  15. Alexis Says:

She just will not give in and I cannot see her being Obama’s VP.

Anyway, did she not see this AP story last year???

When JFK won a suspiciously close race, Richard Nixon conceded graciously. Mitt Romney conceded when it was obvious he wouldn’t win and has been raising money for John Mccain. The Bushes have included Bill Clinton in numerous events. If Al Gore had the class of Richard Nixon, he may have become president after Bushes first term. Hillary Clinton should have conceded three months ago and been campaigning for Obama. Thank goodness for Obama, there is finally a democratic candidate that will know to bring a Tux to France.
