Gallup: McCain, Obama Tied At 44%
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Independents, McCain, Polls, RepublicansMcCain finally ties up the race, as 12% of registered voters claim they’re undecided.

Obama and McCain were closely matched in each of the three nights of interviewing included in today’s result, with neither candidate ahead by more than three percentage points. This suggests that the recent surge in voter support for Obama has truly subsided. The contrast between Obama’s recent advantage over McCain (ranging from six to nine points) and today’s result is particularly notable because this is McCain’s strongest showing in over a month. The last time Gallup found the race exactly tied was in late June. By contrast, in the weeks just prior to Obama’s overseas trip, he had led the race by an average of four points.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if McCain started jumping into the lead a little for the time being. These swing voters seem to be really volatile right now, so they may just be bored with Obama’s “hope” message and are willing to support McCain.
In any event, more tomorrow…

[...] John McCain is not more a tool of Big Oil (whatever the hell that is) than Barack Obama or Al Gore. It’s an insult to our intelligence to suggest that he is. Worse, it’s lazy politics, the stuff you say when you have nothing else and you desperately need some cheap pp from your base to pump up your flaccid poll numbers. [...]
