Teachers Packing Guns – Texas School District Reinforces America’s Cowboy Image
By Tom Hanson | Related entries in Education, Guns and AmmoThe news release that a Texas School District could be the first in the nation to allow teachers and staff to pack guns for protection was deemed so preposterous it received a prominent spot on the Nutty News Network.
But the story is legit – the Trustees at the Harrold Independent School District have approved a district policy that allows school employees to carry concealed firearms. And listening to Superintendent David Thweatt, the move is a necessary one to to deter and protect against school shootings.
“When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that’s when all of these shootings started,” stated Thweatt. “Why would you put it out there that a group of people can’t defend themselves? That’s like saying ‘sic ‘em’ to a dog.”

Sounds like a ridiculous policy to me. Teenagers are not the only ones who can misuse guns…allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons can only send a negative message to students and others.

Actually, the Trustees stated that the primary reason for doing this was due to the fact that the nearest law enforcement can be up to 30 minutes away. In the event an incident occurred, they want trained people to respond in a timely fashion.
I know many of you find guns to be an anathema to a civilized society. That’s okay, you can keep thinking that. There are plenty of law abiding, gun packing citizens who will protect you.

Those of you who know nothing about guns and responsible people who own them obviously don’t realize how capable these gun packing educators are. You have to realize most of these people grew up hunting and target shooting and have owned a gun/rifle all their lives. I would also bet that there is a certification process for the few that will actually have the guns in school. I would feel a lot safer in school if I knew that someone was there to protect me or my children. Change is a good thing. I think I heard that in a political speech. Remember, an armed society is a polite society.
