Palin’s Daughter is Five-Months Pregnant

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in Palin

A nasty rumor has circulated through certain liberal blogs that Sarah Palin’s youngest child is actually the child of the Palin’s 17 year-old daughter. This smear has proven two things. 1) Portions of the left are just as mean-spirited and disreputable as any segment of the right and 2) those smear artists are 100% wrong in their facts.

Turns out, Palin’s 17 year-old daughter is currently five-months pregnant and planning to marry the father. The Palin family had to disclose this earlier than they would have liked because they felt obligated to combat the rumors. I hope I don’t have to explain in how many ways this disproves the rumor concerning Palin’s youngest child.

Anyone who propagated the rumor should be ashamed of themselves. But I’m guessing they will just shrug and start bashing the Palin family on the issue of teen-pregnancy.

  1. ED JOHNSON Says:

Well, wasn’t it the holier than thou Palin who is a proponent of family values and harps on abstinence. Seems like she needs to Focus on the Family, pun intended, instead of aiming to be a heartbeat from the Presidency.

Yeah, the left wing bloggers were malicious but no more so than the right wingers who have called Obama a Muslim and have gone after his wife. How about Fox News’ chryon calling Michelle a “Baby Mama”? How about O’Reilly calling for her lynching? All deplorable!

  2. WCH Says:

This is all such hogwash, media manipulation and, frankly, stupidity on the part of everyone involved. The speculation that the first child was not the governor’s but her daughters simply does not preclude the fact that the second one could just as well be also. Who really knows just yet? There are not birth records made public. There is a wall of secrecy which will need to be chipped away at.

Such secrecy strongly suggests that there is something to hide, or at the very least, the emphasis is on how to spin things the best way possible.

That the populace is first of all so stupid as to base their presidential decision on this kind of crap speaks volumes about the degeneration of the populace as a responsible democracy. Secondly, that the Republican party is in such disarray and Mr. McCain is showing such asinine judgment (stronger terms do come to mind), while the media still represent this as anything near a close race, further underscores how far this country has moved from a representative democracy to a fascist, corporate managed plutocracy. And far too many of us seem like a bunch of stupid farm animals, completely content with it. We should be outraged at the government we have had, but we seem willing to put up with it. If this Republican campaign is any indicator, we even seem willing to give them a reasonable shot at another term of what seems to be shaping up as even more bumbling nonsense.

Ms. Palin needs to go back to Alaska and govern that state. Her inexperience, her bizarre and secretive family situation, and our lack of real knowledge about who she really is, should have never let her get this far.

The populace didn’t want the truth from Mr. Eisenhower, Mr. Roosevelt (T), Mr. Carter; or Mr. Kucinich and Dr. Paul in the current campaign. So the only choice now is to go with Obama/Biden as well known, inspiring at least at some level and demonstrably light years ahead in leadership and maturity.

Unfortunately, stupidity seems to win most of the time in the current political climate (cultivated, of course, by cynical, powerful and rich self interests we never see unless we dig, and we seem far too intellectually lazy to do much digging, the current Palin sit-com as a case in point).

Good luck, America. You’re going to need it.

  3. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

A stronger, more independent young woman would have aborted the child, just as Sarah Palin should have done when she found out her son was defective. Now, according to Obama, Bristol Palin will just have to endure her punishment.

  4. Joni Says:

Within this year 2008, both mother and daughter have chosen LIFE! What a beautiful example of walking the talk! I know you lefties hate this, but we pro-lifers are thrilled to see people in high places choosing life.

  5. Rick Cain Says:

When you cast yourself as a crusader for family values, a knocked up 17 year old daughter really doesn’t work in your favor.

At least chelsea clinton didn’t stumble out of a club drunk until she was 22.

  6. flambeau Says:

Oh sure, John McCain knew all about this before! Give us a break, he’s just trying to make the best of this. Grandpa got caught with his pants down having made a bad pick. He only met Sarah Palin once before choosing her to be 1 heartbeat away from the presidency. Oh, he also telephoned her for 15 minutes or so. I’m sure Grandpa McCain on these occasions asked, “Is your kid knocked up?” Face it, he’s squirming now not having vetted Sarah Palin for this most important position. More will come out too.

You write, “”Turns out, Palin’s 17 year-old daughter is currently five-months pregnant and planning to marry the father. The Palin family had to disclose this earlier than they would have liked because they felt obligated to combat the rumors.” Earlier than they would have liked when she’s been pregnant without a married husband for FIVE MONTHS? That sure shows Republican family values doesn’t it?

Why is it that Sarah Palin and her ilk want to legislate morals to all Americans when she cannot control the impulses of her sluttish daughter?

  7. Swatty Says:

More important but not often mentioned is how irresponsible it was of Gov Palin to fly back to Alaska from Texas once she started leaking amniotic fluid. I can understand about sticking around to make her speech but an 8 hour flight back to Alaska and then another 45 minutes traveling back to Wasilla?

  8. Worst VP Choice ever Says:

There is no proof that she’s five months pregnant. This doesn’t really prove anything.

  9. gerryf Says:

That’s crap and you know it.

Nothing like taking a single sentence from a speech, ignoring the entire context, and then ignoring future statements in response to the GOP windbag machine trying to spin that single statement into something it was not.

I used to think you were just conservative, someone I might disagree with, but honest about your stance. In recent months, you’ve become so shrill as to be pointless.

So, it falls on the rest of us to follow you around and clean up your dooty.

    To that end:

“What Sen. Obama said and what he believes is clear — children are ‘miracles,’ but we have a problem when so many children are having children. As Sen. Obama said on Saturday — and on many other occasions — parents have a responsibility to teach their children about values and morals to help make sure they are not treating sex casually. And while he understands the passions on both sides of this difficult issue, Sen. Obama believes we can all agree that we should be taking steps to reduce the number of teen pregnancies and abortions in this country.”

Furthermore, if you look at the original speech, there was not one single word in support of abortion or getting rid of the baby.

You are guilty–once again–of lying about Obama’s stance.

  10. M. Tobias Says:

    At least Bristol chould choose
Soon there won’t be any choice

FISCALLY IRRESPONSIBLE Palin, who portrays herself as a fiscal conservative, racked up nearly $20 million in long-term debt as mayor of the tiny town of Wasilla — that amounts to $3,000 per resident. She argues that the debt was needed to fund improvements.

    Toward the very bottom.

    Not for America now.

  11. Alan Stewart Carl Says:

Ed, I’ve never excused the rightwing for their nastiness. Two wrongs hardly make a right.

As for all this talk on Palin’s “family values,” what matters is that they continue to love their daughter and help her through this in anyway they can. They seem to be doing that. Any attempt to characterize the Palin’s parenting skills based on this one incident is just partisan sniping. Don’t fall into the trap of turning a young woman’s pregnancy into a political weapon.

  12. bubbles Says:

Wrong! Sarah Palin is pregnant and her daughter is covering for her.

  13. God Fearing Says:

If God wanted teenagers to not have babies, he wouldn’t have made them horny, lacking judgment, and fertile. So what if abstinence-only doesn’t work; stop fighting the culture of life. Mary had Jesus when she was only 14. What more important thing are young girls supposed to be doing than having babies? Congratulations to Gov. Palin for raising her children with proper Christian values.

  14. Avinash_Tyagi Says:

The right wing talks big about morality, but can’t keep their pants on while doing it.

  15. Dani girl Says:

Well, I guess the preaching of abstinence only didn’t work. This is my not my only issue with Palin, but I guess it goes to prove that at least one of her stances is crap.

  16. gerryf Says:

I suspect a lot of us wouldn’t be posting if the only pregnancies that occured were planned ones. People make mistakes and young ones make more than their share.

To be fair to the Palins, one can preach to one’s children all day and all night; children do not always listen.

Saying or implying Sarah Palin is a hypocrite are just off base–now, if she had encouraged her daughter to get an abortion, everyone would have plenty to make hay about, but she could have been completely consistent from discouraging pre-marital sex to supporting her daughter through her decision to keep the child (if it is her daughter who made that call), to supporting her now.

Nothing in this news is a condemnation of Palin other than she was no more or less successful then millions of other parents when it comes to getting them through to adulthood.

Not sure what bothers me more here–the right’s smarmy “Well Obama would have aborted the baby” crap, or the lefts “See what a bad person Sarah Palin is.”

  17. mw Says:

    @gerryf
I find myself agreeing with you more and more. Disturbing.

  18. Alan Stewart Carl Says:

gerryf: well said. Saved me the time, thanks.

As to which side’s reaction is more bothersome, they’re both distasteful. There’s a lot of people on both sides so desperate to find any edge that they’ll eagerly turn a private family matter (that they know almost nothing about) into a political weapon.

  19. mw Says:

“… she cannot control the impulses of her sluttish daughter?”- flam

Tried to ignore it, but cannot let this one slip through. So flam - do you have the same opinion of Barack’s mother?

    Time:

“On Feb. 2, 1961, several months after they met, Obama’s parents got married in Maui, according to divorce records. It was a Thursday. At that point, Ann was three months pregnant with Barack Obama. Friends did not learn of the wedding until afterward… Even by the standards of 1961, she was young to be married. At 18, she dropped out of college after one semester, according to University of Hawaii records. When her friends back in Washington heard the news, “we were very shocked,” says Box, her high school friend. “

  20. berlet98 Says:

“..birds do it, bees do it/ Even educated fleas do it/ Let’s do it, let’s fall in love.” –Cole Porter

Most people realized that Porter wasn’t singing about the birds and the bees or even about falling in love back in 1928 when he wrote, “Let’s Do It.” Back in his time, when a girl “did it” and got caught, she was usually hustled off to a distant relative or to a home for wayward girls.

Times have changed. And now that Republican VP candidate, Governor Sarah Palin’s family has revealed that seventeen year old Bristol Palin is five months pregnant, http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/09/bristol_palin_is_pregnant.html, lowlife, hypocritical leftist bloggers, all virtuous Puritans, no doubt, are having a field day since she obviously “did it.”

The announcement was made to quash their earlier slander that Trig, the five month old Palins’ baby, was actually Bristol’s child which would make Sarah and Todd grandparents.

Then, when the leering lefties noticed what they described as Bristol’s baby bump, they shifted tactics and began saying she was (again?) with child so the Palins, to their credit, decided to clear the air.

Like scavengers falling on a decaying carcass, the licentious lefties, along with the supermarket tabloids, will now feast on this story and attempt to plague Bristol and her family with their cameras and microphones hoping to get some tidbits about how this could happen to such a morally upright, family values clan. I hope they try since it will provide the family’s Secret Service detail with some recreation when they bash heads.

The libs’ Bristol Stomp can and will backfire on them and, on the one hand, I hope they do treat her as they do poptart Jamie Lynn Spears. All their slime will return to them and coat them while redounding to Bristol’s and her parents’ credit.

On the other hand, I’d like to scream louder than that YouTube nut who was so distressed over the media’s incessant harassment of her sister Britney and wanted everyone to just “Leave her alone!”

In case you hadn’t noticed, we live in a sexually loose and permissive culture. A few generations ago, the word “pregnant” was verboten on the Big Screen, a bedroom love scene required that the male lover keep one foot on the floor, and even married Lucy and Desi slept in twin beds with a discreet three feet or so between them.

Now, Baby, virtually anything goes and I’m not sure I should even use “virtually” there. So, here we have pretty, pregnant Bristol Palin, born and raised in a God-fearing, conservative, Christian family which adheres to and preaches Christian values, with parents who oppose sex education in her schools, who surely inculcated in Bristol the importance of chastity and sexual abstinence. However, unfortunately, parental influence and teachings have defined limits and only a cloistered child who is locked in her room 24/7 will be free of contradictory influences.

Where did she go wrong and why did she sin? Here’s a clue: She’s a kid and, governor’s kid or not, she’s a dumb teenager who made a mistake. Dumbteenager should logically be one word since, no matter how book smart they are, by definition teens are dumb in the sense of being immature and impulsive, and, yes, they’re bubbling with hormones. Put those characteristics together and they make errors in their lives, sometimes serious errors the consequences of which change their lives forever.

If I were Bristol Palin’s parent, I’d be proud of her, not because she made a mistake but because she owned up to it. Nowadays, even in Alaska, Planned Parenthood or some other abortion provider would have enthusiatically “taken care of” her little problem and no one would have known about it.

Bristol not only owned up and will, hopefully, carry her baby to term but she plans to marry the father. That makes her different from millions of other young and older girls in America and far different from millions of others who bear children out of wedlock and whose boyfriends then dump them and are seen and heard from no more.

Of course, we will have to see how it all works out and whether Bristol’s boyfriend is as honorable as she but for now, let’s just remember some words to live by: Whoever is without sin, such as liberal bloggers, pick up a blogstone and hurl it at her as Musims still do with real stones. If you happen to be a human being and have your own baggage stuffed with sins, then just wish her the best.

I also wish Governor Palin a great tenure as Vice President of the United States.

  21. Andrew Says:

I like to try to keep the people-bashing to a minimum, so when I heard the rumors about Trig I was extremely skeptical. I’m glad that I was right in that suspicion.

This doesn’t really bode anything for either side. No intelligent liberal is going to seriously attack Palin for this (though it will be the butt of a number of jokes). In fact, I’ve seen more conservatives complaining about “liberal persecution” - see berlet98’s post above - than liberals actually persecuting.

Yes, it is against the standard abstinence policies, and is a small embarrassment to Sarah Palin. But it’s nothing big, and certainly nothing that ought to significantly affect her candidacy.

By the way, berlet? That came off a bit shrill. I agree that people shouldn’t attack her, but at the same time, could you try to also be decent? Love your neighbor as yourself, remember.

  22. wj Says:

I’ve got to agree that a lot of the comments on this topic are pretty awful. Which, unfortunately, does not surprise me as much as it once might have.

What does bother me is the (relative) lack of focus on what would seem to be an actually relevant point in all this. Did the McCain campaign vet Palin sufficiently to be aware of all this?

If not, that says something about the organization McCain is currently running. If so, one might wonder why they did not prepare for what, however regretably, are the totally expectable questions on the subject. Even if they assume (correctyl, from what little I have seen) that the Obama campaign would refrain from jumping all over the topic, they had to know that groups like Kos out there would get nasty almost instantly. A little contingency preparation would seem to be the least one might expect. But apparently they didn’t.

And that, I submit, is actually a proper and relevant political issue.

  23. Jim S Says:

    flam,

Surely if you tried harder you could be more insulting to everyone. Come on, I know you can do it. In other words, while I have problems with Palin, her qualifications and her ideology that post of yours really went over the line.

  24. Alan Stewart Carl Says:

    wj,

McCain’s camp says he was aware of the pregnancy. I don’t know if you can prove that but I imagine Palin would have disclosed it since it’d be hard to hide for very long.

  25. gerryf Says:

That really is the only issue wj, and it’s one heck of a question isn’t it?

Let’s assume that McCain did, as he now claims, know. OK. If he knew, is he so non-judgmental that he thought it would not become and issue at worse or a distraction at best? While I think–if everyone is being honest–that it is commendable that McCain didn’t care, that Palin supports her daughter and Bristol is keeping the baby, I find it stunning that anyone thought this would not be a circus. And saying that, why on earth would Sarah Palin put her family into this kind of limelight with this sort of thing sure to happen?

    And that’s not all.

It now appears that McCain is sending a group up to Alaska to take a second look at the whole brouhaha over Palin’s supposed effort to get her ex-brother-in-law fired and the dismissal of the state’s top cop.

And while McCain is certainly not obligated to talk to anyone he doesn’t want to, how can it be they did not talk at all to the fired state police commissioner. And while there is word that she is cooperating fully with the state legislature investigating the claims, its now coming out she has lawyered up–I don’t blame her for that, but if the situation has risen from “questions” to lawyers, one has to wonder if she was a good choice right now.

And now various news sources are saying she was a member of the Alaska Independence Party, a group that wants to at least discuss secession–a pretty radical idea for someone who wants to be leader of this nation.

And then there his her statement that she was against the bridge to nowhere just three days ago–now it appears she lied in her very first speech.

That’s an awful lot of crap in three days over a holiday weekend. Maybe you could argue that because there isn’t any other news, the press has had more time to dig here, but you could also argue that McCain was incredibly cavalier about this decision.

Love or hate Phalin, support or not, her selection is no longer a game changer, its a distraction and that reflects poorly on McCain’s decision to select her.

    My prediction.

Before the GOP convention is over Phalin is going to announce that she will not subject her daughter to the scrutiny of the national media. The right will blast the liberal press and lefties. The Left will say McCain is a boob for picking her in the first place. McCain will pick Mike Huckabe as his new running mate.

  26. Anthony Says:

I have heard the MCCain camp say it was a liberal blog but no one ever names the blogger. If you know the blog please post the name or do not call a blogger as liberal because it may not be . Redstate.com had a photoshop nude pic of Sarah Palin does that make Redstate.com liberal?

  27. Anthony Says:

Andrew Sullivan previously strongly backed Bush both times, he’s already there:
Now they’ve cleared the air on this - and good for them - what harm would it do to release the medical records showing that Ann Soetoro Sarah Palin delivered Barack Trig on August 4 April 18 in Honolulu Wasilla? This is not hard: there must be an obstetrician, medical records, and data that can easily refute this rumor. It is not out of the ordinary either: candidates routinely issue medical records. So let’s have them. And then we can move on.
    Get it?

Does anyone consider Andrew Sullivan a “liberal blogger” that’s on our side? Is there any other “liberal blogger” that is promoting this story non-story other than Andrew Sullivan

  28. mw Says:

    Anthony,
Daily Kos was the blog that initiate coverage of the rumor in a major way. They went at it early and often. No surprise there. The Moderate Voice picked it up from them, and lent their credibility to it. Big surprise there. It would take about one minute of searching the blogosphere to figure this out.

My understanding is that Andrew Sullivan did not support Bush over Kerry. Andrew Sullivan has been a big Obama supporter from the day he declared. He shows his support by continually attacking Obama’s opposition. He did that to Clinton, now he is doing it to McCain.

Whether he is a conservative, is debatable. He is certainly an independent. He has certainly been an Obama supporter all along.

    Happy to help.

  29. Matthew Hatton Says:

Some of the people on this post seem to miss the point: the daughter is choosing to keep the child and, while the family is confronting a difficult private situation in a very public forum, they are supporting the new parents to be — isn’t that about as pro-life as you can get?

Having said all that, this does distract from the need to introduce the Governor’s policy credentials (something we’ve recently written about on furiousdivide.com) and I think this will prove a real test of the McCain campaigns’ ability to manage the message (particularly since the 24×7 cycle of a Convention got blown off course).

  30. Bob Aman Says:

I’m honestly ashamed anyone is talking about this at all. What the diarist did was reprehensible. Neither Trig nor Bristol were fair game, and anyone with even a shred of moral fiber should have realized that immediately. The sooner the entire issue disappears from the headlines the better.

  31. steeeve Says:

“Within this year 2008, both mother and daughter have chosen LIFE! What a beautiful example of walking the talk! I know you lefties hate this, but we pro-lifers are thrilled to see people in high places choosing life.” - joni

i love the irony of people saying they “CHOSE” life.. because if it were up to them there would be no CHOICE involved..

and Bob Aman, everything is fair game in politics, if McCain supporters can call Obama a muslim with no facts at all to back it.. then Obama supporters can DEFINITELY call Sarah Palin a hypocrit for being such a right wing “pro-life” “pro-family values (HA! thats a good one..)” “pro-whatever else BS they can come up with to win votes” and having a daughter that got pregnant at such a young age

  32. david Says:

It is disappointing to find a “choose abstinence” leader unable to control her own household. If the Abstinence program is such a wise choice, why doesn’t it work within Palin’s central sphere of influence? I’m afraid this shows her to be intellectually shortsighted and totally unprepared to lead. She’s certainly spunky - as the pundits say - but America needs something more than ’spunky’ a heartbeat away from the White House.

  33. Rob Says:

There were really only two options; either Bristol was the mother, OR even worse Palin’s water breaks, waits to give a speech, gets on a plane for 9 hours, then goes another 45 minuets to a small town to give birth. This shows her decision making skills to be around zero.

  34. Rob Says:

BTW: I am saying that I found it hard to believe that Bristol was the mother, because as a VP candidate someone would find out; it would just be impossible for it to stay a secret; too many people would know the truth.

My point was that people were suspicious because the alternative (putting her baby’s life at risk) SEEMED implausible.

  35. John Says:

Sorry late on this post. Something does seem wrong with the whole scenario. If she had made all those bad choices, and apparently back to work 3 days later, with a child that has downs syndrome, I’d be more than concerned. No one would fault her for those choices. I looked for pics of the pregno Palin, and there were none. End the controversy, show pics of her pregnant. Release the medical records. Also, if the baby was born in April, what is Bristol’s school records, discussions with students. If she took it to term, she must have been showing. And finally, if Trig is Bristol’s baby, then what does being 5 months pregnant prove? It just proves she got right back on the horse. You can fudge a few weeks in whether she’s 5 months or 4 months pregnant. I wouldn’t be suprised if the baby was “premature”.

Look, she can prove all this very simply, by offering proof. Then it goes away and the liberal media look like a bunch of asses.

  36. rachel Says:

I saw plenty of pics of pregnant Palin on a Daily Kos diary I read yesterday. I don’t remember the title, but it was one of many asking the nutters over there to please STFU about the Palin’sbabymomma “Conspiracy.”
