Palin’s Debate Strategy: Attack Biden

By Alan Stewart Carl | Related entries in 2008 Election, Biden, Debates, Palin, Veep

In the hours before the vice-presidential debate, word from the John McCain campaign is that Sarah Palin will go on the attack, challenging Joe Biden on his foreign policy blunders and his liberal record.

I hate to say it, but this is probably Palin’s best bet. She can quite easily spend her time avoiding the questions and just repeating carefully rehearsed attack lines. A pit bull doesn’t need mastery of the facts – the fangs do just fine.

The question is, will Biden let Palin ruffle him or will he be able to stay on topic? If this turns into a brawl, I think Biden loses. He has to do everything he can to keep his cool and try to make Palin state her opinion. Defending himself is probably less important than putting Palin on the spot.

I’m quite interested to see how this plays out. It could get ugly tonight.

    ROFLMAO!!!!

Remember last week, when Lehrer kept having to prod McCain and Obama into addressing each other directly? Obama kinda got into it, and McCain never did?

    It Clearly Won’t Happen Tonight.

I think Ifill just migh do good to show up in zebra stripes, with a whistle around her neck.

Palin had all of the advantages going into this debate. The public has low expectations of her, so it was going to be easy to impress them. She also knew that neither the moderator or Biden could attack her. Biden would look like a bully picking on a vulnerable woman while the moderator would be accused of favoritism since she has published a relatively favorable book about Obama. The only thing Palin has needed to do was rehearse how to bring up a canned attack against Biden at every possible opportunity.

Biden can only grin and bear it like a man being slapped by a girl.

Oh, and did anyone notice what a cute butt Palin has compared to Biden’s? It was very considerate of the media to provide us with regular ‘backside’ views during this debate!
