Obama Didn’t Win. McCain Lost.

When historians look back on this election, I actually think that this debate will prove to be an important opportunity missed by McCain. Tonight he had to “take the gloves off” and he didn’t even come close.

I was talking to a coworker today about the election and tonight’s debate, and I put it this way. Obama is now at the 10 yard line and about to score, and tonight McCain needed to trip him up. The only problem? Tonight’s format really prevented him from going really negative and bring up something like Ayers or Rezko or Wright. So all McCain could hope for was Obama to trip up on his own. He didn’t. In fact, Obama held his own quite well in a format that was supposed to be McCain’s strength. And he counterpunched much more effectively than McCain too.

So from here on in it’s relatively smooth sailing for Obama. Sure, there’s another debate to go, but the Ayers story will die because McCain provided no oxygen tonight, and that’s all the Arizona Senator had left.

It’s over folks.

what i am surprised most by is that mccain did not just blow off the rules and go live. Ask obama, on stage, if he is down with ending the restrictive format and actually taking questions from the crowd. I thought it really prevented McCain from showing life and taking charge, you cant get a rhythm with the way they set it up. The people in the room were uselss because they were not allowed to follow up or react or do anything. No one liked the set up and everyone new it was a farce so trying to blow it up and do something crazy like take actual questions might have been a big plus for McCain. Hell he could have just blown Brokaw off like palin did and went after obama. I really dont get the mccain camps thinking.

I really doubt that Ayers and the rest would have helped him. My guess is that Obama is so ready for that to be brought up that he has a rejoinder that would destroy McCain with most independents.

I keep on hearing about Obama & Ayers. McCain has his own skeletons in his closet. Certainly we have heard about Keating but we haven’t heard much about his friendship with G. Gordon Liddy.
