McCain’s Comeback Speech: “Fight”
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, McCainI LOVE how this video starts out. McCain says, “We’ve got them just where we want them.”
Yeah, I’m sure it was the plan all along to be 10 points behind in the national polling and on the cusp of an Obama landslide in the state polling.
Genius!
Also, maybe it’s just me, but does anybody else remember somebody saying she was a “fighter”? Of course at that time it meant Hillary could beat McCain in the election. So what does “fight” mean in this context? That he’s going to fight the banks back into liquidity? That he’s going to fight Iran into accepting our terms?
Fight. Fight. Fight.
If this is what McCain means by comeback, he is absolutely doomed. Nobody wants to fight any more. They want cooperation and solutions. Now more than ever.

This is a comeback speech? It sounds more like a pep rally and more preaching to the converted.

That sounded very similar to the way he ended his convention speech. It’s kinda a populist play with a little nationalism thrown in. But saying you will fight for this and that is far less important than HOW you will fight.
As for the word choice itself, it doesn’t bother me, but I don’t think it’s the best way to frame himself.

“McCain’s senior adviser Sen. Lindsey Graham promised over the weekend that McCain would debut new economic proposals that would include lowering tax rates for investors and cutting the capital gains tax.
But the Arizona Senator – in words that could describe his troubled campaign as much as the country’s economic problems – chose instead today to deliver a fighting address in Virginia aimed at rousing supporters and urging them to stay the course in the presidential race.”
So instead of addressing the economy and trying to appeal to moderates and swing voters, he continues to pander to his base. Way to reset your campaign, Senator.

As I watch John McCain’s campaign the word that keeps coming to mind is “befuddled”. Obama seems to be campaigning circles around him.
