Rift Forming Between McCain And Palin?

This isn’t really that hard to believe. We saw very similar things when it was clear that Hillary’s campaign was starting to come apart at the seams.

But this is a bit different since we’re seeing Palin start to break away from her talking points and start to save some political face.

MSNBC has this report…

Sure, they’re going to say they’re all on the same page, but I’m not buying it now, just like I didn’t buy it when Hillary’s camp said everything was copasetic.

Here’s a pretty telling passage from the original story from Politico:

Four Republicans close to Palin said she has decided increasingly to disregard the advice of the former Bush aides tasked to handle her, creating occasionally tense situations as she travels the country with them.

Those Palin supporters, inside the campaign and out, said Palin blames her handlers for a botched rollout and a tarnished public image — even as others in McCain’s camp blame the pick of the relatively inexperienced Alaska governor, and her public performance, for McCain’s decline.

“She’s lost confidence in most of the people on the plane,” said a senior Republican who speaks to Palin, referring to her campaign jet. He said Palin had begun to “go rogue” in some of her public pronouncements and decisions.

“I think she’d like to go more rogue,” he said.

I can almost guarantee she’ll go rogue. Why? Because she already has. From robocalls to her insistence on not abandoning Michigan, she has been pretty candid about making sure her opinions are heard.

And, by the way, I trust her that she didn’t know how much money was being spent on her wardrobe and makeup. And I bet she’s furious that the McCain folks has helped reinforce the “unserious beauty queen” meme.

Still, maybe she should have told McCain “no” when offered the VP position. Because if she thought she was ready for this, she clearly has an unrealistically high opinion of her talents. This is obviously not an uncommon thing in politics, but when you’re running for the White House you better make damn well sure you can at least answer some basic questions.

More as it develops…
