Obama’s Infomerical

It’s called “American Stories, American Solutions” and this is the whole thing except for the live speech which was at the end of the original broadcast…

By the way, concerning that live speech, I think they could have done without. It really didn’t add anything.

Nate Silver agrees…

7:29 PM. That was very good, although I actually think they could have done without the live bit at the end.

In any event, the overall message was effective because real people told real stories about real problems. And then Obama talked about how it would solve those problems. Pretty simple equation, but having 30 minutes to do it really helps.

To be honest, if Obama fills the last few days of his ad buys with 4 minutes snippets from this, I think it would start to deliver some really huge dividends.

So, what did you think?

I think he just proved, once again, why he’s winning the race, and why most consider him better suited to be president than McCain.

Seriously, anyone who votes for McCain is either rich, racist or a retard

When the economy goes bad, seek Ron Paul’s advice, he’s an expert Barack… you can do it.

  3. Mike A. Says:

We have a lot of all 3 in this country….

  4. Jim S Says:

Ron Paul is not an expert on economics. He is a doctor who turned politician after he found an ideology that appealed to him. That particular form of economics is the only kind he’s ever studied and he has not one iota of actual education in the field or knowledge of economics except through the lens of his adopted economic viewpoint.

I didn’t watch the ad myself, but I hope that’s true. Because if anything about the famlies or their stories turns out to be false, it’s likely to be discovered. And that wouldn’t be good news for Obama.

Fancy shmancy infomercial, but could’ve used a “Bill Mays here…” introduction.

By the way, the only reason he had the $$$ to run the infomercial is because he broke a pledge to the American people on public financing limits.

John McCain kept his promise. Yes, honor maters when you run a campaign on Hope and Change.

BTW, bet you haven’t seen this video of Obama:

The obamamercial was OK. I liked his closing arguments speech better.

    Justin,

The most impressive thing about the pitch, besides what you mentioned, was not what he said but what he didn’t bother staying. That being anything about his opponent, John McCain. If McCain was doing this piece how much of it would’ve been spent on criticizing his opponents?

We all know the answer to that question, yet almost half of the American population would consider the kind of campaign that McCain has run as appropriate. And we wonder why we’re in troubling times. What’s more amazing is that the Republicans supporting McCain wonder why everybody else doesn’t get it! I wonder if they ever will?

  9. Erik Sickinger Says:

Jim say what you want about RP’s hardcore libertarian sense – but if you’ve ever watched Paul’s grilling of Bernanke, you cannot doubt his economic knowledge.

Jim S. – that was the best “Ron Paul in a nutshell” that I’ve ever seen.

    Avinash,

I love Obama too, but name calling isn’t helpful. let’s disagree with the McCain supporters without being disagreeable.

  12. Mikeb302000 Says:

By spending the money to put that ad on TV, Obama was taking his own advice: not to rest on his laurels, not to count the chickens yet.

I think it was a good move.

[...] Personally, I haven’t heard any negative talk about it except for maybe the live shot at the end. I don’t think he needed it and neither did Nate Silver. [...]
