I don’t mind partisans as long as they bring strong cogent arguments related to real-world facts. Gingrich IMO does not seem to be much more partisan than the rest of the usual leper parade. And one thing Gingrich does bring is a solid argument, which he can be relied to hammer on.

Sooner or later the economy will stabilize and begin to turn round. When it does, progressives will credit Obama and conservatives will say the turnaround happened in spite of him and would have been quicker and stronger had they been in charge. Since these spins are already predestined, why not start ignoring them now, and save yourself some trouble? Use that extra time praying that the turnaround comes sooner than later.

I’m not a big fan of CNN, home to Bozo the Dobbs. But i have little doubt that bias or no, this downturn will rival the great depression. It may well not be AS BAD AS the great depression, and let’s hope so. But it’s already as bad as the other modern-era recessions and shows no signs of mitigating yet. So it’s a safe bet in my mind that this one WILL be the worst “since” the great depression. Might as well get used to the idea.

I think that Republicans can make an argument that the stimulus will not work. I personally hope it does work, but what concerns me is that they don’t really have much of an alternative other than cutting taxes.

I hope you’re not surprised that Reps are knocking the stimulus bill so early in the game. It’s obvious enough that republicans are going to play the obstructionist game in the hope that Obama will fail. It’s there only chance to regain congress and the white house.

Well, thanks Justin;

I haven’t watched it yet but after that ’spoiler alert’ not sure I’m going to. Not b/c of Mr. Gingrich though, as I agree with the previous commenter. An overly biased pundit is unwatchable only when they open their mouth and ya know what they’re gonna say before the sound comes out. Gingrich, no matter how entrenched he is on the far Right, sometimes says unpredictable things, as he did prior to the last election.

What I don’t understand, and to the point of your post, Justin, is where is all of that kind of straight talk now? When the Repubs were so upset with Bush’s – and their own – collective policy failures, they were all too honest about who was responsible for the mess we were wn. Well, not all of them went through that sort of revelation, but Newt certainly did. Seems all they needed was the opposition party to take over and relieve them of their burden to rally them. Why the media lets them get away with it is beyond me. Actually, no it isn’t – the media is just selling tickets, and we’re all to happy to pay the price and watch the side show. Ugh!

Are you telling me that the journalists and columnists that have been on the Round Table aren’t partisan ?

Geez, Russert used to have James Carville and Mary Matalin on the Round Table.

I think we need to stop pretending that journalists are unbiased. Personally, I don’t care that they are or not, I just wish they’d be honest about it already
