Now, does anybody here think that Joe actually has gay friends? No, me neither.
But wait, there’s more!
Because in an interview with Christianity Today, he also let slip yet another misguided, bigoted pearl…
In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?At a state level, it’s up to them. I don’t want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it’s wrong. People don’t understand the dictionary—it’s called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It’s not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we’re supposed to do—what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we’re supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins.
And this is a guy who has a book deal, is being paid to speak and covered the situation in Gaza for Pajamas Media.

He isn’t a plumber – he’s an opportunist. And not a very bright one either – just a schmoe with nothing to say, a media creation that the media shouldn’t cover anymore. Is this supposed to stir the base? The narrow minded, bigoted demographic of “regular Joe’s”? Please…this clowns 15 minutes we’re up months ago.

Why do people still care what this man says? It isn’t even funny anymore. He just falls deeper into a pit of shame with every comment he makes. If everyone just let Sam slip into obscurity we could talk about something else. Maybe he could move to Alaska with Palin and they could shut the Hell up together.

I would have no knowledge whatsoever of the ongoing exploits of JtP without you Justin.
Given how appalling you find him, what confuses me is why you seem to be making a substantial effort to extends his 15 minutes of fame to 16 or 17. Can’t we all just stipulate that this guy is a total cementhead, and move on?

Thanks for pointing out that every group has it’s “kooky uncles” that everyone would like to ignore, but can’t. He asks one good question, and now conservatives have to “own” the rest of his thoughts and opinions.
You are right, JtP is the Michael Moore of the right. But, the left still has Sean Penn, Rosie ODonnell, Cindy Sheehan, Hugo Chavez, etc….

I think JtP is probably more analagous to someone like Sheehan. When it comes to those kooky uncles that the other side makes you own, there are several categories in my mind.
1)There are those who get an outsized voice by leverage their innate celebrity, like say Sean Penn.
2) Then there is the pundit class, who manufactured their celebrity over time by loudly and repeatedly yelling outrageous but entertaining things, like say Ann Coulter.
3) Then there are those semi-regular folks who are granted celebrity because they have an evocative story that some politician, party, or media member shines an opportunistic spotlight on. That probably includes JtP and Sheehan. Although both made serious efforts to cross over.
4)maybe we need an activist class for those who get some celebrity through years of earnest if kooky committment. Sheehan could go here.
