Steele: Obama Elected Because He Was Black

I didn’t think Steele could get any hackier, but yet again he proves me wrong.

Roll tape!

And here’s the transcript…

STEELE: The problem that we have with this president is that we don’t know [Obama]. He was not vetted, folks. … He was not vetted, because the press fell in love with the black man running for the office. “Oh gee, wouldn’t it be neat to do that? Gee, wouldn’t it make all of our liberal guilt just go away? We can continue to ride around in our limousines and feel so lucky to live in an America with a black president.” Okay that’s wonderful, great scenario, nice backdrop. But what does he stand for? What does he believe? … So we don’t know. We just don’t know.

I mean, seriously? Seriously???

I’m sorry folks, but if after THE LONGEST PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD you don’t think Obama was fully vetted or you don’t know where he’s coming from, well, you weren’t paying attention.

But hey, maybe this is part of the “hip-hop makeover” Steele has been promising for the GOP.

If you cut through Steele’s bombast, the basic point is that race played a large role in this election. As did George W. Bush. Ironically, not much about the election was about the GOP candidate, John McCain. He himself was basically a non-issue.

  2. logtar Says:

Stupidity runs wild amongst people that think that picking a president is like picking lottery numbers… I mean does anyone really play the numbers they get in the fortune cookie?

  3. michael reynolds Says:

I love Michael Steele. I think his should be a lifetime appointment.

  4. wj Says:

It is no doubt true that there were some people who voted for Obama simply because he was black. And there were others who voted against him for the same reason. For Steele’s point to be valid, he would have show that the former vastly outnumbered the latter.

And, at the risk of being rude, is there any real doubt that Mr. Steele was elected to his current position exactly because he was black? Any at all?

  5. michael childers Says:

I am a right-wing,America loving,conservative,middle-aged white man from Birmingham Alabama and Obamas race has NO bearing on why I dont support him. Obama is,at best,a socialist who has disdain for this country and our constitution. He will be proven to be a disaster as president. Lucky for us he will be a one-term president and America will elect a grown-up in 2012. As for any candidates race,WHO CARES!!! IT DOES NOT MATTER!!! It is their ideology that matters. As for why Obama was elected, check out Media Malpractice by John Ziegler. It will open the eyes of anyone brave enough to view it with an open mind.

MR – lol so true man. If I were him I’d be trying to bury the party just to get back at them for setting him up as a puppet figurehead.

WJ – lol I know the irony is so thick you need a sawzall to cut through it.

  7. Keith Says:

Who did Michael Steele cast his vote for president? Similarly, gay Republican’s (especially closted ones) tend to legislate the toughest against gay rights. And, it appears black Republicans legislate the toughtest against the black populace. Steele is in this all for himself and he deserves this chairmanship where he is just be used. The Republican Party is failing and they want to wipe up the damage with him. Michael, you need to row that boat ashore because the sunami is headed your way!

Sometimes Obama seems genuine, sometimes he comes off as the most narcissistic politician,(oh wait that is redundant) I wanted this to work even though I did not vote for him. The day after the election I told myself that he is my president and I will support him. But after 6 months I see that he does not want my support. To Obama, he does not feel he represents all Americans only the ones that agree with everything he says. He was the biggest player of the “race card” (that is why he did not get my vote) during the election. My father is from Africa, raised 8 children without welfare (he went to work), my mom too! They worked their tails off. What ever happened to that in this country?
