   2.Isn’t assisted suicide preferable not only for those who are choosing it, but also family members who can plan to cope with somebody’s death? In other words, would you rather know when somebody is going to die or simply have it happen out of the blue one day?

   You need to exclude this particular line of reasoning from your argument. Think about it, if you were destined to die “out of the blue one day,” then you shouldn’t be a candidate for assisted suicide. I understand what you are trying to say, but people with terminal, degenerative illnesses do not die “out of the blue.”

   You can’t mark the exact day on the calendar, but if for some reason you cannot handle that fact as a family member, and prefer that your relative would die at a time of your convenience, then you are a douche, and perhaps you should euthanize yourself by jumping off a bridge.

   Oh no, people making rational decisions about how their lives end. Everybody panic.

   Justin, I am pretty much with you, but I think this debate is analagous to the torture debate in the sense that the best resolution may be to keep it illegal while ackowledging that there may be instances where it’s rationally acceptable.

   After all, if you really want to snuff yourself, and are truly determined, you can make it happen in most instances unless you are paralyzed or close to it. I tend to think that I’m one of the folks who might want to choose his own checkout time.But I guess I don’t expect a supportive culture or industry to spring up to meet my druthers.

   I would think that doctor assisted suicide is under the castegory of health care, which is soon to be under the control of the government. Why not take advantage of the subsidy and kill yourself on the taxpayer’s dime Kranky? Think of all the costs of long-term care that would be reduced! Lets make affordable health care possible.
