Joe Biden Quotes of the Week

“It’s not just a congresswoman. This is bigger than Debbie. This is bigger than me. I promise you: If the Republicans succeed in knocking off these new bright stars … What do you think the chances [are] for the kind of reform we need for that little 3-year-old beauty in the next four to six years?” (8/19/09 – Chicago fundraiser)

Gesturing to a 3-year-old girl listening to his speech may have been a cheap trick to tug at our heart strands and an overly emphatic way of making his point. (Do you think the Republicans want to block 3-year-olds from health care?) Yet the Chicago audience ate it up. Halvorson faces an uphill battle against a National Air Guard pilot/former commissioner, a farmer and an activist/church TV show producer. I guess you’d really have to be embedded in Chicago politics to understand why someone with 12 years in the state Senate and a year in the House would be so nervous that she’d have to call up Biden for support. Then again, maybe Biden is just that cool to “hang out with.”

On another note, it’s interesting to see the same old battle royale is starting up again, fear mongering and all, which makes us roll our eyes recalling about all that silly talk about “bipartisanship” during the primary season. Barack Obama may be a fair-minded individual, but he’s certainly ready to play hard ball, especially when his batter is Joe Biden and he’s got Nancy Pelosi on first, Kathleen Sebelius on second and Rahm Emanuel on third.

I like Joe Biden. What you see with him is what you get. He makes life and politics more interesting with his words. The very people who knock him or joke at his expense secretly hang on every word the man says !

    Is that a rhetorical question?

    Every 3-year-old?

    No… not every 3-year-old…

That’s a bit of an exaggeration. Republicans don’t want to keep health care from all three-year-olds. They only want to keep health care from three-year-olds whose mothers have diabetes, but make slightly too much too qualify for low income programs.

This is a great site that you have here. It’s important that you have a site that focuses on both sides, so keep up the good work. I have a site myself where people can voice their opinion and debate on some of the most controversial topics out there today.

Anyway, good work and maybe we can do a link exchange or something.

    Sincerely,
    Jason

You have a really strange fixation on Joe Biden that I don’t quite understand.

One comment I do want to make: saying that we want to give a better life to our children is not fear-mongering, or rather if that’s your definition of fear-mongering it’s so broad as to be meaningless. And that was the plain meaning of Joe Biden’s point, which was the opposite of hard ball I might add.

It is certainly not in the same galaxy of fear-mongering as, say, “death panels” and the like. If this is your example of the Obama administration giving up on bipartisanship and engaging in fear-mongering, then you have a real, real, real, real low bar.

I don’t understand how one can look at the health care debate currently raging, the entire national conversation, then narrow down to a comment Joe Biden made at a congressional fundraiser in Illinois remarking that health care reform is important for our children, and declare that to be the problem.

Tell me the truth: did Joe Biden run over your puppy?

Oh c’mon Brad. Jenn covered VP candidates in the campaign.

This is not a Joe Biden fixation.

THIS is a Joe Biden fixation.
