Apart from stunning satellite imagery, it now comes with brand new photographs, 3-D navigation feature, interactive stories, and so much more.

It makes being a virtual tourist more wonderful than ever. So get ready for Google Earth to rock your world.

Features of Google Earth Reimagined

Knowledge Cards

Want to know more about the places you’re seeing or exploring? The knowledge cards will provide you the information you need without having to run a Google search. Right from Google Earth, you will get the details you need.

Voyager

Wondering where you want to go to on your next vacation? Why not get ideas or inspirations from journeys around the world that are collected for your consumption? All these curated journeys will make your next trip almost real before you get to do the real thing. Find 360 videos, Street View, in-building views, underwater views, and other rich media.

Interactive Stories

This feature is made available in partnership with the DigitalGlobe and the BBC and is part of Voyager. Here, you will find detailed stories from a selection of around 40 books that will be updated regularly. What’s a voyage without stories, right?

Feeling Lucky

This one is for the adventurous breed, always on the hunt for lesser-known locations around the world. Using this feature, you will be given one place to explore out of the 20,000 locations in storage. Since each location is picked randomly, Feeling Lucky is an adventure in itself. Who knows what you’ll discover next?

3D View

Viewing the map in 3D is nothing new, but the re-designed Google Earth makes visualizing the 3D imagery of cities and places clearer and more detailed than ever. As what Earth product manager Gopal Shah said in a blog post, “We want to open up different lenses for you to see the world and learn a bit about how it all fits together; to open your mind with new stories while giving you a new perspective on the locations and experiences you cherish”.

Google Earth AI

AI-enabled, Google Earth not only gives you access to maps, but also online information about landmarks, countries, mountains, and the like. It will also make suggestions about the next location you should explore based on your past searches. This is made possible through the integration of the Google Knowledge Graph.

The Google Earth update is only available for Android and Chrome users – for now. It also remains not VR-friendly, but this could change anytime soon. Users are not allowed to add their own stories as well, but even this may become an added feature on the next round of updates.

With the reimagined Google Earth, exploring the world from your chair is better and more realistic than ever. You can also add your own image to Google Earth Pro if you want to.
