Mark Warner Coming Back?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections

Whispers from Hotline…

We’re not trying to start anything but with the decision by Evan Bayh to not run, there was a lot of commentary on the Sunday shows wondering if Mark Warner was having second thoughts.

And by sheer coincidence this week, one of our NH spies informed us they received a holiday card in the mail from… Mark Warner.

Could Warner get coaxed back into the race next summer once the euphoria of Obama and Hillary has worn off? He has the personal resources… Again, not trying to start anything but simply making an observation.

Oh, and just in case you missed it…Evan Bayh isn’t running. That leaves Bill Richardson, John Edwards and…Tom Vilsack (who?) as the other Dems vying for the top spot. Of course Gore and Kerry are thinking about it, but seriously guys…hang it up.

But Dan Conley of Political Insider has this to say

Now that Hotline has published the rumor, my sources have released me from my pledges … Mark Warner has, in fact, been rethinking his decision to leave the Presidential race for several weeks now. Warner’s going to wait and see how this race plays out [...]

Still, if I had to bet…my money would be on “Warner ain’t running.”

I’ve been wrong before, though…once.

  1. DosPeros Says:

Tom Robitussin Vilsack, Govenor of Iowa. AKA King Tom “the Understated” Vilsack of Cornidium.

(Warning: Don’t listen to him while operating heavy machinery, may induce sleepiness).

  2. Paul in Austin Says:

Newt Gingrich commented that he might wait until the beginning of 2008 to decide to run, after the shakeout of the front runners. Warner could do the same thing.
Perhaps both of these guy will get nominated to the Unity 08 ticket?

Recent comments by Newt don’t really make me think he has an independent voice. New ideas? Yes, but from a fairly conservative place.

I liked what I read about him and was disappointed by his early exit.. In reality, he left SO early that it would not look bad if he decided to re-enter the race later. In fact he would probably benefit from the double publicity (from exiting, and from re-entering). But wouldn’t that make him a flip-flopper? ;-) Seriously though I think the Republicans have beaten that horse to death.
