Congress Approval Plummets; Time For 3rd Party?

Why? Because people voted for change and they’re not getting it.

From LA Times:

WASHINGTON Fueled by disappointment at the pace of change since Democrats assumed the majority on Capitol Hill, public approval of Congress has fallen to its lowest level in more than a decade, according to a new Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll.

Just 27% of Americans now approve of the way Congress is doing its job, the poll found, down from 36% in January, when Democrats assumed control of the House and the Senate.

And 63% of Americans say that the new Democratic Congress is governing in a “business as usual” manner, rather than working to bring the fundamental change that party leaders promised after November’s midterm election.

But honestly, what can Dems do with such slim majorities? You can’t squeeze blood from a stone, and unless the Dems try to compromise on some things, nothing is going to get passed.

However, the Examiner has some thoughts…

[...] The public appears to have concluded both major political parties and their respective leaders in Washington are simply hopelessly out of touch. A President Thompson might enjoy the appearance of achieving real change for a few months after being innaugurated, but it would soon become evident that such changes are only coming on the margins.

In other words, the moment may be approaching for an independent, trans-partisan political party, a citizens party if you will, to assume the initiative. Or maybe no such movement will appear and instead the current system will simply continue and the nation will continue its current slide towards the entitlement culture’s inevitable economic bankruptcy.

Something tells me that a viable 3rd party is inevitable given the trend, but I’ve been wrong before…

I don’t think even with such crappy approval ratings that a third party candidate could still stand a chance… I DO however think it’s about time for BOTH parties to dump their current platforms and return to their TRUE platforms.

The Republicans and the Democrats have both been hijacked by fundamentalism and I feel THIS is a major factor in both of their low low approval numbers.

Since the boys and girls can’t get along and have not yet learned to play together in the sand box I think it is time to get rid of the incumbents. The only way we can do this is to implement congressional term limits since the American people continue to have a belief that their congress people are actually representing them and still keep returning them to office time after time. These same people think that everyone else’s congressional representaives should be voted out of office. I don’t know how we can convince the American people that we are being duped by the Washington establishment.
