The media blitz continues.

In other news, Paul seems to be polling higher in New Hampshire…

Romney led all Republicans with 33%, followed by former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani with 22% and Arizona Sen. John McCain with 13%. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee each had 7%, with former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson at 5%.

Encouraging, but not yet significant enough to say there’s true movement in his favor.

“Freedom is not defined by safety. Freedom is defined by the ability of citizens to live without government interference. Government cannot create a world without risks, nor would we really wish to live in such a fictional place. Only a totalitarian society would even claim absolute safety as a worthy ideal, because it would require total state control over its citizens’ lives. Liberty has meaning only if we still believe in it when terrible things happen and a false government security blanket beckons.” ~Ron Paul, Security and Liberty 04/25/2007

“It does not take a majority to prevail … but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.” - Samuel Adams

“None are more enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”

Oh, there’s definitely movement. Within the past week there have been three 7% finishes in state polls and two 5%-or-better results in nationwide polling. That’s new, and it’s surely more than just statistical fluctuation. But it’s fair to ask whether it’s going to be enough, fast enough. I’m optimistic, especially since many of these polls still reflect results from before all of the publicity that Paul got for his successful November 5 fundraising.

  3. Charles Held Says:

Remember that these polls usually define “likely Republican primary voters” as people who voted in the previous Republican presidential primary. That was 2004 when W was unopposed. So the only people voting in that primary were diehard Bushies, who are the ones most likely to prefer Rudy, Mitt, McCain and Huck.

Also here’s where a few democrats were polling at similar times in the election cycle:

John Kerry, December 2003: 5% (4th place, behind Wesley Clark, tied with Al Sharpton)

Bill Clinton, October 1991: 5% (4th place, behind Doug Wilder and Bob Kerrey)

Michael Dukakis, 1987: 1% (6th place, tied with Bruce Babbitt, behind Sam Nunn)

As long as Huckabee, who promises to be GWB II, is ahead of Paul I don’t see a chance for him.
