As far as I am concerned torture is patently un-American. When the North Koreans were bounding our soldiers hands behind their backs and cutting their penises off and disemboweling them what was Americas reaction to that? Total and utter disgust, but some radical, ignorant American president wants to convince us that torture is American? that it is patriotic? This president makes Americans that love their country begin to despise it. No man or women can utter the word justice and torture in the same sentence because they do not coincide!

America is better than that. We shouldn’t act like our enemies and if we do than we are no better than them. It IS Americas principles that make it revered. If we are going to throw the principles out the door then you might as well move to China because that’s the kind of shit they do in that country.

CIA destroyed videotapes of detainee interrogations:

And yet another case in which the Democrats failed to ask the hard questions.
A Democrat knew about this for some time and what has come of it? Nothing! Lol! Who’s minding the store in this country anyway? It seems that anything goes these days. This is precisely what happens when you got two parties that
are only interested in power and not our country. They look the other way when one of them is engaging in unconstitutional acts or corruption as long as they know the favor will be returned. This government is full of a bunch of traitorous pigs.

We got the White House destroying emails, the CIA destroying videotapes, the NSA spying on Americans with warrants or reasonable cause and both
parties are making out like bandits while working Americans foot the bill for their corrupt little war.

Duopoly, that’s what this is. It sure as hell isn’t representative government
that’s for sure. When is somebody, anybody, I don’t give a shit who it is, but when is someone going to put a stop to this stuff? What’s the point of having a majority in congress if the Democrats refuse to use it? And yes, I know it’s a slim majority. No excuse!

  3. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

I oppose torture, but I also oppose killing innocent people in terrorist attacks.

If I have to choose one or the other, either waterboarding a terrorist mastermind for two minutes, or killing dozens of innocent men, women or children in a terrorist attack, I choose the former because it is the only morally right decision. To choose the deaths of innocent civillians would be morally wrong.

Jeremy has also made that choice. He has decided that he would rather have innocent men, women and children die agonizing deaths, with others being severely and permanently disabled, than to have a notorious terrorist mastermind suffer simulated drowning for 2 minutes, with no lasting effects otherwise. That is the morally wrong decision.

Anyone who would chose the same, particularly in todays climate of global Islamic terrorism, should be unelectable, on moral grounds.

    Operative words: “notorious terrorist mastermind”

Are you trying to tell me that all the people in Abu Ghraib prison were “notorious terrorist masterminds?” Will you then tell me that you know they are because Bush said they were? Please!!

Yes, we all know terrorism is extremely abhorrent act and you’d be hard-pressed to find an American that thought otherwise. However, until you can give me some assurances that innocent people are not receiving torture for the reason of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time then I categorically reject the use of torture.

  5. Jeremy Says:

“than to have a notorious terrorist mastermind suffer simulated drowning for 2 minutes, with no lasting effects otherwise.”

No lasting effects otherwise? I’ll go out on a limb and guess that the tortured don’t think water boarding or any other form of torture is a momentary annoyance. The torture my not inflict grievous physical harm but it is almost assuredly mentally and emotionally harmful.

I think we should test this hypothesis out by torturing Jimmy, I mean, since there’s no danger of “lasting effects otherwise.”

    Aww…poor Khalid Sheik Mohammad.

Well, at least you seem willing to admit that you actually prefer dozens of innocent men women and children being massacred in a terrorist attack than to see Khalid Sheik Mohammad, the mastermind of 9/11 and dozens of other deadly terrorist attacks, undergo simulated drowning for 2 minutes possibly resulting in his “mental and emotional harm.”

That was the only point of my comment. Your honesty is quite refreshing on this issue. Most people would try to duck around it.

    This comment is just retarded.

  8. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

Why? Haven’t you answered the question? Which is it? Option A or B? You are the interrogator who is listening to the intercepted Satellite phone calls between Khalid Sheik Mohammad and Abu Hamza, in which they were speaking in coded language about an imminent terrorist attack on what turns out to be a National Guards barrack in Djibouti.

Khalid Sheik is not talking. You already made the call, my friend. Unless you specify otherwise, it appears the attack would remain on schedule.

  9. Jeremy Says:

    Blow me.

  10. Justin Gardner Says:

Jeremy, your tone has become increasingly shrill as of late, and it’s not welcome. Tone it down.

  11. Jeremy Says:

Sorry. I realize it’s not respectful for me to talk that way. Sorry Jimmy. BFF?

  12. Jimmy the Dhimmi Says:

Well, I suspect John Cole is right, since, according to the Washington Post, House Speaker Pelosi, Democrat Representative Jane Harman, as well as Democrat Senators Bob Graham and John D. Rockefeller IV, all knew before these tapes were destroyed, that we had waterboarded terrorists.

Apparently, they approved of the techniques, since they had not used their authority as members of the House intelligence committee to protest. In fact, the reaction of these lawmakers to being briefed on these techniques was, “not just approval, but encouragement.”
