Hagel Would Consider VP Offer…However…
By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Republicans, VeepFirst, I have my doubts that Obama would offer it to somebody who’s so in line with Bush, but it would certainly shake up the race.
Second, if this were to happen, Hagel would have to almost promise that he’d govern from the middle left if anything ever happened to Obama,
However, something tells me that no politician would feel comfortable swinging that far away from their core values.
But don’t just take my word for it. See what Hagel said in response Hagel’s response to the question if he’d accept it…
“If it would occur, I would have to think about it,” Hagel said. “I think anybody, anybody would have to consider it. Doesn’t mean you’d do it, doesn’t mean you’d accept it, could be too many gaps there, but you’d have to consider it, it’s the only thing you could do. Why wouldn’t you?”
So if not VP, perhaps Chuck Hagel as Secretary of Defense? Because he and Obama seem to line up particularly well

In today’s political environment there is no way that Obama could have Hagel as VP.

I keep saying it but yeah, Hagel as VP would be an amazing long-shot. I have zero doubt that it would produce good results post-election, but pre-election, it just won’t play, and Obama can’t afford that. Hagel will be SecDef I suspect. I will be very disappointed if he isn’t given a cabinet position, honestly. He’s a good guy, with a long history of actually being reasonable.
