Obama’s Dumb Presidential Seal Ripoff

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Bad Decisions, Barack, Democrats

This is the official Seal of the President…

This is a new seal the Obama campaign created for a meeting with Democratic governors…

And you may be asking yourself, “What does Vero Possumus mean?” Well, the NY Times has the answer and the snark…

Just above the eagle’s head are the words “Vero Possumus,” roughly translated “Yes we can.” Not exactly E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many, One), the motto on the presidential seal and the dollar bill. Then again, Mr. Obama is not the president.

Now, you can obviously guess what I think about this seal from the title of the post, but I do agree with the Chicago Tribune when they point out…

Some people are poking fun at the Obama folks for this. But if you want voters to imagine your candidate as president, what better way to do that than to have him appear behind a faux presidential seal? It actually makes sense on a certain level.

And this is probably a good time to experiment with it. That way, if there’s a voter backlash, the sense that Obama has gone too far, the campaign has plenty of time to throw the seal down the memory hole in the hope that it will have been forgotten by Election Day.

So yes, bad taste on the part of the Obama stagecrafters, and, oddly enough, this is something that McCain could really jump on if he wanted to. Because this is one of those things that could suggest that Obama doesn’t “get it”, even though he may have not even seen the seal or cared what was on the front of the podium to being with.

I hope this one gets tossed down the memory hole this weekend.

Well he’s going to be the president in a few months, so its important he starts practicing now.

Also I think it looks cooler than the real seal

This really isn’t that big of a stretch if you’ve been following Obama’s campaign and the branding they’ve used thus far. I recall thinking when I saw it for the first time, before people started making a deal out of it - is he president already? He looks the part. Does it go to far? Perhaps. I don’t think he needs it, but it definitely starts setting the image of a presidential figure.

It was a sophomoric stunt, but I don’t think Obama knew much about it.

    Avinash,
Turning the Presidential seal into a Wedgewood engraving, isn’t cool to me.

    Agreed.

My dinner plates look like that except that they say “Sic gorgiamus allos subjectatos nunc” on them.

On the other hand. A huge campaign rally with all of his followers shouting in unison…

VERO POSSUMUS! VERO POSSUMUS! VERO POSSUMUS!

…would be much cooler than the current tired “bob the Builder” refrain.

Stunning how ignorant some of the comments are above making this out to be no big deal or ‘ok’, and the blog poster obviously is young and an obamabot otherwise you’d have enough sense to be 1) outraged at this and 2) have enough depth and wisdom to be scared shitless at this guys endless arrogance and power hungry behavior.

name me another guy who wrote his own memoirs at 34…

Any decent liberal or Democrat will do everything in their power to keep this guy from becoming president. He has NO BUSINESS being where he’s at right now with his back ground and credentials.

This is insanity to the highest level

    Wishful thinking …for sure !!

Another example that this “empty suit” has NO JUDGEMENT !!

He not only has no judgement but the SOB has NO RESPECT FOR THE SYMBOLS that this country holds near and dear !!

    The outrage !!

  10. Bad Says:

Do I really have to put with this level of phony outrage for more than 4 months still?

How about Obama and McCain agree to share the office, so we don’t have to go through the spectacle of people embarrassing themselves by pretending to care about stuff like this.

Barack’s Seal is pure cheeseball, pretentious, and juvenile. Will SNL jump all over this? I doubt it. With that seal it would be fitting for BHO to wear a Burger King crown when he is at the podium. For me with this latest piece of work it removes all doubts that he is a malignant narcissist.
