Proposed Debate Formats Eschew Traditional Lectern

I’d be in favor of something along these following lines, although I’d like to see more open format town halls.

The Commission on Presidential Debates proposed the less formal, more conversational talk-show format for two of three 90-minute debates it’s seeking this fall. The third debate would be a town hall-style session in which the candidates would be free to get up from high stools and walk around the stage.

Now, the story goes on to say how this would neutralize Obama’s height advantage, but does that really matter any more? I mean, both Gore and Kerry were taller than Bush but nobody seemed to care.

Here are where the debates may take place…

Sept. 26 at the University of Mississippi, in Oxford, Miss.
Oct. 7 at Belmont University, in Nashville, Tenn., the town hall session.
Oct. 15 at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, N.Y.

One last question…is the traditional lectern style format dead or nearly dead?

The word you’re searching for is “eschoo”, from the NFr. “escui”. OTH, “askew” means something is catty-corner.
