Virginia GOP Chairman Compares Obama To Osama

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Partisan Nonsense, Virginia

I’ve been posting a lot recently about the various attempts to paint Obama as foreigner, a muslim, of Arab decent, a friend of terrorists and a terrorist himself.

Well, now this is the first (to my knowledge) that explicitly involves a high ranking member of the GOP, at least at the state level.

From TIME:

“We haven’t seen a race like this in Virginia — ever,” said state GOP Chairman Jeffrey M. Frederick. “The last time was 40 years ago, and they didn’t run races like this.” [...]

With so much at stake, and time running short, Frederick did not feel he had the luxury of subtlety. He climbed atop a folding chair to give 30 campaign volunteers who were about to go canvassing door to door their talking points — for instance, the connection between Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden: “Both have friends that bombed the Pentagon,” he said. “That is scary.”

It is also not exactly true — though that distorted reference to Obama’s controversial association with William Ayers, a former 60s radical, was enough to get the volunteers stoked. “And he won’t salute the flag,” one woman added, repeating another myth about Obama. She was quickly topped by a man who called out, “We don’t even know where Senator Obama was really born.”

What do you say to stuff like this?

The most I can do is continue to point it out and hope that those of you who think that these are just blips on the radar start taking notice of a very clear pattern.

Inspiring terrorism by whipping up the frenzy. Must I quote KMFDM? They may as well put a bounty on Obama’s head for all the shit they are inspiring. They should be black labeled for such insipid vitriol actions.

“Whip up the frenzy, keep them suspended, don’t let them know that their liberty’s ended!”

By calling Obama a “friend of terrorists” the McCain campaign is painting him as “untrustworthy”, “mysterious” and “unpatriotic”.

You are correct in pointing out that there is a pattern — these incidences are not random or exceptions to the rule.

I am disgusted by the ignorance of some people, and the willingness of “respected” politicians and pundits to jump on the “Obama = Osama Bin Laden” bandwagon

Here is an email that was just forwarded to me. This stuff is sick - and it’s getting around.

    >Subject: Where did the money come from? Please Read
    >
    >Something to think about here! I have been wondering the same thing and
    >I think I now have an answer….You deceide.
    >A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - ‘Beware of the enemy from
    >within!’
    >
    >”About a year ago, I would have voted for Obama. I have changed my mind
    >three times since then. I watch all the news channels, jumping from one
    >to another. I must say this drives my husband crazy. But, I feel if
    >you view MSNBC, CNN, and FOX News, you might get some middle ground to
    >work with.
    >
    >About six months ago, I started thinking, ‘Where did the money come from
    >for Obama?’ I have four daughters who went to college, and we were
    >middle class, and money was tight.
    >
    >We (including my girls) worked hard and there were lots of student
    >loans. I started looking into Obama’s life. Around 1979, Obama started
    >college at Occidental in California . He is very open about his two
    >years at Occidental, he tried all kinds of drugs and was wasting his
    >time but, even though he had a brilliant mind, did not apply himself to
    >his studies. ‘Barry’ (that was the name he used all his life) during
    >this time had two roommates, Muhammad Hasan Chandoo and Wahid Hamid,
    >both from Pakistan .
    >

    >for this trip? Neither I, nor any one of my children would have had
    >money for a trip like this when they were in college.
    >
    >When he came back he started school at Columbia University in New York .
    >It is at this time he wants everyone to call him Barak - not Barry. Do
    >you know what the tuition is at Columbia ? It’s not cheap to say the
    >least. Where did he get money for tuition? Student Loans maybe” After
    >Columbia , he went to Chicago to work as a Community Organizer for
    >$12,000/Year.
    >
    >Why Chicago? Why not New York? He was already living in New York. By
    >’chance’ he met Antoin ‘Tony’ Rezko, born in Aleppo Syria, and
    >a real
    >estate developer in Chicago. Rezko has been convicted of fraud and
    >bribery this year.
    >
    >Rezko was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Decade’ by the Arab-American
    >Business and Professional Association.
    >
    >About two hears later, Obama entered Harvard Law School. Do you have
    >any idea what tuition is for Harvard Law School? Where did he get the
    >money for Law School? More student loans?
    >
    >After law school, he went back to Chicago. Rezko offered him a job,
    >which he turned down. But, he did take a job with Davis, Miner,
    >Barnhill & Galland. Guess what? They represented ‘Rezar’ which
    >was
    >Rezko’s firm.
    >
    >Rezko was one of Obama’s first major financial contributors when he ran
    >for office in Chicago. In 2003, Rezko threw an early fundraiser for
    >Obama which Chicago Tribune reporter David Mendelland claims was
    >instrumental in providing Obama with ’seed money’ for his U.S. Senate
    >race. In 2005, Obama purchased a new home in Kenwood District of
    >Chicago for $1.65 million (less than the asking price. With aLL those
    >Student Loans, where did he get the money for the property? On the same
    >day, Rezko’s wife, Rita, purchased the adjoining empty lot for full
    >price.
    >
    >The London Times reported that Nadhmi Auchi, an Iraqi-born Billionaire
    >loaned Rezko $3.5 million three weeks before Obama’s new home was
    >purchased. Obama met Nadhmi Auchi many times with Rezko. Now that we
    >have Obama running for President.
    >
    >Valerie Jarrett was Michele Obama’s boss. She is now Obama’s chief
    >advisor and he does not make any major decisions without talking to her
    >first. Where was Jarrett born? Ready for this? Shiraz , Iran ! Do we
    >see a pattern here? Or am I going crazy?
    >
    >On May 10, 2008, the Times reported, Robert Malley, advisor to Obama was
    >’sacked after the press found out he was having regular contacts with
    >’Hamas,’ which controls Gaza and is connected with Iran.
    >
    >This past week, buried in the back part of the papers, Iraqi newspapers
    >reported that during Obama’s visit to Iraq , he asked their leaders to
    >do nothing about the war until after he is elected, and he will ‘take
    >care of things.’
    >
    >Oh, and by the way, remember the college roommates that were born in
    >Pakistan? They are in charge of all these ’small’ Internet campaign
    >contributions for Obama. Where is that money coming from? The poor and
    >middle class in this country? Or could it be from the Middle East? And
    >the final bit of news; On September 7, 2008, the Washington Times posted
    >a verbal slip that was made on “This Week’ with George Stephanapoulos.
    >Obama on talking about his religion said, ‘My Muslim faith…’ When
    >questioned, ‘he made a mistake.’ Some mistake!
    >
    >All of the above information I got on line. If you would like to check
    >it - Wikipedia, encyclopedia, Barak Obama; Tony Rezko; Valerie Jarrett;
    >Daily Times - Obama visited Pakistan in 1981; The Washington Times -
    >September 7, 2008; The Times, May 10, 2008.
    >
    >Now the BIG question - If I found out all this information on my own,
    >why haven’t all of our ‘intelligent’ members of the press been
    >reporting
    >this? A phrase that keeps ringing in my ear - ‘Beware of the enemy from
    >within.’

Where did the money come from? It came from thousands of Americans like me giving what they could. Things are really tight but I gave what I could spare at the time which happened to be just $5. I would (and will) give more if I’m able before the election. If for no other reason than to do my part to counteract the nonsense and hatred being directed against someone who by Mccain’s own words is a good man.

I think the key sentence in that email was “All of the above information I got on line.” As if the internet is the pinnacle of reliable information. Any one with any agenda can put out anything they want online and present it as fact. Once it’s out there it can be replicated and transmitted many thousands of times in the blink of an eye. Yes even the all knowing Wikipedia contains inaccuracies and out and out lies at times. Even the factual information can be construed any way you want.

    I’ll stop now. Moving on…

Where did the money come from? I can’t speak for college. Maybe he had a scholarship. He seems like a really smart guy to me. As far as the campaign funding goes though a good chunck of it came from thousands of Americans like me giving what they could to support the campaign. Times are very tight but I gave what I could at the time which was only $5. I would (and will) give more if I can between now and the election if for nothing nothing more than to try to help combat the hatred and ignorance that’s being hurled at someone who by McCain’s own words is a good man.

The key sentence in that email for me is “All of the above information I got on line.” That’s presented as if the internet is the pinnacle of factual accuracy. Anyone with any agenda can post anything they want and present it at fact. Once it’s out there it can be processed, replicated and transmitted many thousands of times in the blink of an eye without any research or fact checking required. Even factual information can be twisted and construed any number of ways to suit any purpose. Yes even the all knowing Wikipedia contains inaccuracies and out and out lies.

What’s sad is many, many, many people out there are so gullable. It’s as if fact that something like that was emailed to you automatically makes it factually and accurate. If that were the case I would believe that Sarah Pailin walks around her house in a bikini holding a shotgun and posed for nude pictures when she was younger. Sheesh!

    I think I’ll stop now. Moving on…
