Powell Talks More About Obama Endorsement

This from a press conference after MTP
“I think Sen. McCain as gifted as he is, is essentially, going to [execute] the orthodoxy of the Republican agenda with a new face and a maverick approach to it. I think we need more than that. I think we need a generation change. My sole concern is where are we going after January 20, 2009.”“I’m well aware of the world I played; my role was straightforward. I wanted to avoid a war, and the president agreed with that and tried to go through the UN. And it didn’t work, and I supported the president. And it looked great…but then [it went bad] and now it’s starting to turn around.”
On McCain’s ads: “It troubled me. Those kind of images going out on Al-Jazeera are killing us around the world. This business from the congresswoman from Minnesota saying, let’s examine all congressman to see who is pro-American or not pro-American.”
The Powell Doctrine is back.

I am assuming this means that we will accept and negotiate with a nuclear armed Iran. If Israel attacks, they are on their own.
Apparently, Powell doesn’t really care about those other images from Al-Jazera that are broadcast here, i.e., the head-choppings, car-bombings, and sermons calling for the death of America and the Jews…the ones where they are actually “killing us.”
To Powell, that’s just what muslims do. We must expect them to act like animals because they merely respond and react to our policy, with no motivational ideology of their own. They will naturally integrate harmoniously into the global community as soon as we become isolationists again.
The Powell Doctrine is archaic. He is a dinosaur.

Muslim does not equal terrorist. Extremists of all kinds are a part of every culture, but who the extremists are, and their power change and fade.

I think the wave of Republicans that are supporting Obama are uncomfortable with the us-vs-them mentality that the McCain campaign has employed to try and keep enough support in the base to keep the congressional races from being a route. Powell’s name still means a lot to many Americans and his thought process could help reinforce those who are thinking about voting for Obama, but aren’t 100%comfortable about it.
