Anchorage Daily News Endorses Obama

Umm…ouch.
And the reason is clear…she just isn’t ready.
They go through a lot of reasons, but here’s the red meat of the piece…
Gov. Palin has shown the country why she has been so successful in her young political career. Passionate, charismatic and indefatigable, she draws huge crowds and sows excitement in her wake. She has made it clear she’s a force to be reckoned with, and you can be sure politicians and political professionals across the country have taken note. Her future, in Alaska and on the national stage, seems certain to be played out in the limelight.Yet despite her formidable gifts, few who have worked closely with the governor would argue she is truly ready to assume command of the most important, powerful nation on earth. To step in and juggle the demands of an economic meltdown, two deadly wars and a deteriorating climate crisis would stretch the governor beyond her range. Like picking Sen. McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time.
And, by the way, I stand by my previous assertions before Powell’s endorsement that his was a watershed moment in this election. Because it gave all the moderate Republicans leaning towards Obama the excuse to say, “Like the distinguished General Colin Powell…”
And to that point…
The unqualified endorsement of Sen. Obama by a seasoned, respected soldier and diplomat like Gen. Colin Powell, a Republican icon, should reassure all Americans that the Democratic candidate will pass muster as commander in chief.
Again, this one really stings, especially since Palin’s so popular in Alaska.

This is another thing the McCain campaign will have to fight off which will keep them more and more off message (whatever that message is at this point). The endorsement won’t change the election since Alaska is firmly in the McCain column, but it is another piece of data that could cause pause in those leaning McCain or who are undecided.

Another example of McCain as both a weak candidate and a weak campaigner. In more competent hands, the ridiculous Dem focus on Palin would have been squelched weeks ago. “Listen folks, what does it say about the Democrat’s fear of John McCain when they try to make this race between Obama and Sarah Palin? They’re obviously afraid to go toe-to-toe with John, so they have to focus on the VP spot. It’s really kinda sad.”

1. JUST BECAUSE SHE’S FROM HERE DOES NOT MEAN WE BACK HER. BUT THIS ELECTION WAS AN EYE-OPENER; WE’LL PRESS THE EJECT BUTTON FOR THE GOVERNOR’S SEAT AS SOON AS SHE GETS HOME(SIDE NOTE: “THE DRESS DOES NOT MAKE THE MAN (OR WOMAN, IN THIS CASE)!
2. JOHN MCCAIN THOUGHT BECAUSE HE “SERVED”, AMERICA “OWES” HIM THE PRESIDENCY… (SIDE NOTE: MCCAIN NEVER PROVED A BRIGHT STUDENT OR LEADER & COST MILLIONS OF DOLLAR FOR BEING ERRATIC HIS ENTIRE LIFE). WELL, THANKS FOR SERVING, BUT DON’T HOLD YOUR BREATH ANY LONGER: THERE ARE SO MANY DESERVING, GRACIOUS AND HUMBLE SERVANTS OF THE NATION IN EVERY HOSPITAL, SCHOOL, BUSINESS, PUBLIC SERVICE AND SO MANY OTHER PLACES. BUT NO TEACHER, FIREFIGHTER, POLICEMAN, MANAGER, CEO, JANITOR OR EMPLOYEE OF ANY LEVEL THINKING THAT AMERICA OWES THEM THE WHITE HOUSE.
TAKE-HOME LESSON FOR POOR MCCAIN: SERVING IN WARS ABROAD IS JUST AS NOBLE AS ANY OTHER PROFESSION IN THE LAND.
