Quote Of The Day

“Senator McCain has some great ideas but has not been able to communicate them in a way that would recognize the world has changed. Who knows whether there would have been a better candidate.”
- Jeb Bush in an interview with Miami’s CBS4.com
That really has to sting because it only reinforces that McCain has run a 20th century campaign to try and win a 21st century race.
Still, I wonder why Jeb has decided to come out and say this now before the election. Does he know something about Florida that we don’t?
Hmmm….

That’s a nasty and impolitic thing to say, IMO. McCain deserves the respect of not having members of the President’s family, members of the his own party, deliver post-mortems prior to death. It’s like composing someone’s eulogy in the same room as the bedside vigil, while the patient yet lives. Aint it?
He couldn’t have waited until tomorrow? What this shows me is that Jeb had his one little kernel of supposed insight/soundbite, and he wanted to be the first one to say it and gain ownership of the meme that the ideas were sound but the approach was dated. It’s a way to arse-kiss the base. Can you say Jeb 2012? I have a hard time believing a 3rd Bush could win anytime soon, but that would never stop an ambitious man.
That whole 20th/21st century thing is a compelling rhetorical device because it hooks into peoples vision of us forging bravely into a new future. But for the most part its bullshit. The world is always changing, and as it does, much stays the same. I can’t think of anything much that suggests to me that McCain misunderstands the way the world works.
