Just a "conservative" telling whites to get with the program and accept their future minority status.

US politics will eventually consist of two "minority"-dominated neo-socialist parties battling over the remains of what used to be a First World Nation as it settles into its new role as Brazil II. Let's hope it doesn't inflict too much more hell on the rest of the world as this inevitable decline plays itself out.

Well, I don't even like overtly self-righteous and confrontational people (like Limbaugh, Michael Moore) when they are on my side. So I'd cheer Powell if he chooses to confront the party about their relish for confrontational interaction.

This is not to say that confrontation is never necessary. I just think it's to be used with reticence, and even then, judiciously and with carer to avoid disparagement. Of course, folks who use self-righteous confrontation as a stock in trade (again, like Limbaugh and Moore) always seem to have convinced themselves that they live in a world where things have deteriorated so much that their approach is the only possible one. Or else they have polished their act when it comes to displaying it.

Such political narcissists are hideous creatures, if you ask me.

If we're lucky, the Republican Party can build a new base.

Wouldn't Powell be pushing 80 by 2016? Also, I believe John McCain was amongst the most respected political figures in the country when he started his run, known primarily for his bi-partisan appeal. It was the soul-selling he had to do to keep the base happy that helped ruin that. Also notable that the only regions McCain out-performed Bush in are those not known for their progressive attitudes regarding race relations.

My thought is that even were Powell of an age that would make a 2016 run possible, the Republican base would reject him. You get the leadership you deserve, which in this case means the Republicans are probably stuck with Sarah Palin.
