    Obama’s stupidest move IMO

  2. Tully Says:

He was given three options for destroying the drone on the ground, before it could be moved to where civilians would be endangered. He dithered and sat on his thumbs instead.

  3. cranky critter Says:

Well, as dumb as that move (or NON-move) was, I’m talking about “we’ve asked for it back. . . : He looks like a total idiot there.

  4. Tully Says:

And this was a change from his previous Iran policy how, exactly?

  5. cranky critter Says:

I don’t have any clue how you think it matches it.

  6. Tully Says:

I think you already covered it yourself, with “He looks like a total idiot there.” Yep, that’s a good description of his Iran policy to date.

  7. cranky critter Says:

    That doesn’t describe policy.

  8. Tully Says:

My previous description of the admin’s generic foreign policy has been “apologize to our enemies, antagonize our allies, waffle incoherently when possible”. I’d say this fits nicely. :-)

I’ve also described their Iran policy as “ignore events as long as possible, then make a token pronouncement when it’s too late to have any effect at all, even if the pronuouncement isn’t meaningless.” Once again, this fits quite nicely.

IOW, a lack of real policy that seems totally idiotic. Obviously, YMMV.

  9. khaki Says:

Let’s take these one at a time:

    1. Apologize to our enemies: Ask Osama Bin Laden about this one.
    2. Antagonize our allies: You’re talking about Isreal of course. The 2003 road map THAT THEY SIGNED expressly require that Isreal, ““freezes all settlement activity (including natural growth of settlements),”. Every president since 1967 has apposed settlement activity (including Bush Sr. famously in 1991) but suffer politically (from the Jewish Lobby) if they try to do anything. So, yeah, Obama is “antagonizing” them. Well, no s***.
    3. Waffle incoherently: examples please. You seem to be parroting the meme that Obama’s policy on Libya was incoherent, “leading from behind”, right? Well, how did that turn out? I suppose you’d rather have clear-cut “axis of evil” and “you’re with us or against us” bloviation? Don’t results matter to right wingers, or are you merely fascinated with your own erections?

  10. cranky critter Says:

In that case, yeah, mmdv. I think most of his foreign policy has been spot on. We’re scaling back our direct adventurism while being supportive of developments we want. We’re out of Iraq, didn’t put boots on the ground in other areas, we killed Bin Laden, we’re letting Israel do the dirty work in Iran. That stuff all works for me. I’m done with Team America World Police.

  11. Tully Says:

Aw, did I dis your squeeze? Too bad.

I find it interesting that you run directly to the anti-semitic anti-Israel bit. But just google “Obama Snubs” and you’ll find it’s enormously deeper than that. Not that his going against forty years of US policy to call for a return to the 1967 borders was wise. It wasn’t. Nor is his continual PUBLIC pissing on Netanyahu.

Showing the Dalai Lama the back door. His treatment of the Brit contributions in Afghanistan, or his selling out British military secrets to Russia.(Obama is now the most hated US president in Britain since Nixon. And he’s getting there in Germany and France.) His disavowal of the Pole/Czech missile defense treaty in the face of resurgent Russian saber-rattling.

His sucking up to Chavez. His near-abandonment of Colombia. His treatement of Taiwan. His weeks-long effort to ignore the Iranian election protesters, long after the rest of the world had condemned the brutality. His dumping on Canadian oil — Harper has already said if the admin doesn’t quit the horse shit they’ll simply sell it to China. His neglect of the endgame negotiations in Iraq. His give-aways to Cuba. His lecturing of Germany on debt handling is past rich, and off into downright bizarre.

Libya? Yeah, I hear they were delighted to get the Lockerbie bomber back intact. I hear he’s still doing fine. But hey, he only killed 190 Americans or so! No big whoop. CHUMPS. And I loved his “no direct military involvement” statements followed up by B-2 raids.

Yeah, that’s smart diplomacy … but for whom?

And do tell me in what fucking world Obama could pass up a clean kill on bin Laden and survive politically. I mean, credit where credit is due, but GMAFB.

To those of us who pay attention to the details, “waffle incoherently” is merely descriptive. And one of the kinder interpretations.

  12. Tully Says:

Aw, did I dis your squeeze? Tough shit. He’s a foreign-policy train wreck as far as our allies are concerned, most recently with the Keystone pipeline. Yeah, piss on the Canadians. They’ll just sell it to China.

I do find it interesting you run directly to the anti-semitic anti-Israel tropes of the left, when the examples stretch over the entire globe. Not that his continual public pissing on Netanyahu is wise, nor his reversal of decades of US policy to call for a return to the 1967 borders. It isn’t wise. It’s idiotic.

Off the top of my head, the admin has also done their best to screw and annoy the UK, the Poles, the Czechs, the Colombians, the Taiwanese, the Germans, and even managed to annoy the French, though admittedly the latter is no great feat. All while sucking up to the Russians, the Chinese, Chavez, Castro, and assorted others.

Do tell the Iranain election protesters about his decisive and rapid actions in denouncing the brutality used to suppress them. And bin Laden? Tell me in what fucking world he could have passed up a clean kill shot at ObL and survived politically. GMAFB. Credit for giving the order, sure, but his alternatives?

I will admit it took some real talent to become the most hated US president in Great Britain since Nixon, but that’s not something to wear as a badge of honor.

What crawled up YOUR @ss? I’m not even sure I know what that line above means. It sounds like a pre-prepared rant bomb from a bag full of rightie bullshit grenades.

All while sucking up to the Russians, the Chinese, Chavez, Castro, and assorted others.

Good one!! All you left out was to call for impeachment on grounds of treason. Does your head explode for an encore?

    BTW, Merry Christmas, amigo!
