From the Associated Press: Bush Nominates Federal Judge Roberts

Roberts Jr. on Tuesday as his first nominee for the Supreme Court, selecting a rock solid conservative whose nomination could trigger a tumultuous battle over the direction of the nation’s highest court, senior administration officials said.

A good clever choice from Bush.
Democrats might not like his conservative credentials but given his previous confirmation record, I think Democrats, apart from the likes of Senator Kennedy, will find it difficult not to confirm this appointment.

If the conventional wisdom is true, I say let him through. Put him through arduous guestioning especially regarding executive powers - given his ruling on enemy combatants and military tribunals. Then let him have a vote. Janice Rogers Brown or Edith Jones would’ve been a different story.
On a purely political level, the Democrats would be wise to allow a vote, get him off the front page and keep Iraq and Rove on it - which means they’ll probably do the opposite and get their butts kicked by the Republicans.

Apparently yes you can. In fact, you can do quite a bit in our comment sections that other blogs prohibit.
Yea for comment freedom!
