Crocodile Hunter Dead

But ironically enough, he wasn’t killed by a crocodile.

Instead, a stingray got him. Now, you’re probably thinking, “Who would get killed by a stingray?” and that’s a good question because people rarely die from these injuries. Sadly, this was a freak accident where the stingray’s barbed tail got Irwin in the chest and punctured his heart.

From the AP:

Irwin was at Batt Reef, off the remote coast of northeastern Queensland state, shooting a segment for a series called “Ocean’s Deadliest” when he swam too close to one of the animals, which have a poisonous barb on their tails, his friend and colleague John Stainton said.

[...]

Crew members aboard the boat, Croc One, called emergency services in the nearest city, Cairns, and administered CPR as they rushed the boat to nearby Low Isle to meet a rescue helicopter. Medical staff pronounced Irwin dead when they arrived a short time later, Stainton said.

My thoughts go out to his family.

I just want to say how much the Crocodile Hunter has changed my perception of wildlife in all faccets. I used to kill any snake I found in my backyard etc. out of ignorance. I can tell you that I wouldnt even think of doing something like that now, as a matter of fact quite the opposite. Thanks to the Croc Hunter.

    RIP Steve

    HE WILL FOREVER BE REMEMBERED.

  3. joe Says:

bout time. i mean seriously… how long did he think he could flirt with death for?

  4. Amanda Says:

Wow Joe, how rude and cold of you. He did it because he loved it and he knew the risks. Thanks to him people like us didn’t HAVE to put ourselves in danger to learn more about the facinating creatures found in nature.

Personally… I will miss the croc hunter. It is a very unfortunate accident and I am grateful that he died instantly.

I was watching the news when I got to know about Steve’s tragedy. I could not believe my ears. I watched it 3 times in different channels to believe that. The dare devil is a real hero and I will never forget him. He is like a bridge between the animal world and the human world. I respect him for his love towards the animals and if I say, he did his best to bringing the darker side of the animals on to the small screen, I am sure every one will agree.

Lets all pray for him. May his soul rest in peace.

  8. Eric Says:

He was an amazing person and lived a daily life that was beyond anything normal people experience ever. The world is a shade darker without him in it. My thoughts go out to his family, he will be missed.

  9. Caymanian Girl Says:

I would like to offer my condolences to Steve’s family. May God be with you at this sad time.

I was deeply saddened when my son called me to tell me the news at work today. Steve certainly taught us all a lot about animals, & I personally enjoyed watching his shows ~ He will be missed.

As for Joe and his rude comment above, please have a little respect for Steve’s family. Just think about how your family would feel if they had just lost you and someone made such a rude and disrespectful comment about you.

As they say, if you can’t say something good, don’t say anything at all!

It seems unreal. He was such an incredible and brave guy. I send my best wishes to his wife and two children. I will always remember the days when my little brother and I would sit in front of the tv in awe of his courage. He taught so many people so much- I am saddened that he did not have a chance to teach us more.

we’ll all miss you croc hunter

I felt that Steve was ALWAYS flirting with disaster, but that in no way diminishes the spirit and the passion he showed towards his craft. Maybe it in fact caused us all to fall in love a little more with the world around us and appreciate it a lottle, no, a lot more. God be with his family.

  29. MARCO Says:

He treated wild animals like circus exhibits all the while shouting and laughing all the way to the bank. He was a blatant self promoter and died because of his own stupidity. ITS A SHAME MANY PEOPLE CAN’T GET THIS IN PERSPECTIVE.

  30. Randall Says:

We all loved him…as inhabitants of this planet, and this universe, we learned more about our past and our future from Steve Irwin, than any other generation in history. Steve Irwin, who will admirably always be known as the Crocodile Hunter, when in reality he was so much bigger. Neil Armstrong may have set foot on the moon, but it was Steve Irwin who opened our eyes and that of our children about the creatures here on earth in a way only Steve was capable of. He was a world-wide educator and appreciator of prehistoric life, and advocate for saving our planet.

There are not enough words to express our collective grief…Steve, we love you, we miss you, and to his wife and children, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

  31. Danae Says:

Steve was a life changing person. He always held everyones interest. He was my favourite person who worked with animals. Everyone will miss you, Steve!

This world i going to miss him alot because he was the best of the best in my opinion he should not be named crock hunter but he should be named ANIMAL LOVER because he love them with his heart

i pray to God that he give him a special place in Heaven
We all will miss u alot and love u even more by the day

  35. jb preistly Says:

In a world where we seem to spend less and less time with our own families its kinda sad to see all this public grieving over a television star…you would think that half the above comments came from close personal friends, but no just from people who enjoyed watching Mr Irwins “entertainment” on the tube.
To descibe him as lover of animals is a bit odd…I doubt the native animals he teased and tormented would feel that way.

  36. Andrew benjamin Says:

what mr jb said is odd i mean Steve never teased any animal he had always loved them though taking care of them was a great challange whic he took and no one i mean no one has this much strong heart to do so How could u accept to control a crock with his such massive weight or a python which has such poerfull Claws it would be Rood to say that he teased animals
And secondly i am not his relative i am just an ordinary Person living in Pakistan WHo Loved watching his Heroic shows I loved his was way of talking and doing things
Mr JB it is not necessary that u should be a relative to feel sad for some one Because where Hearts are Connected u dont need relationships In todays world no one cares for any one and u are talking about Relations
People Loved Steve Irvan Alot he was inspiration to many people Mayn loved him and still love him and miss him

    Again Mr jb
It is not necessary to have relation with some one but connection of heart is necessary ok Keep that in mind
