More Proof The GOP Wants Ned Lamont

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Elections, Money

A Lieberman win in November does nothing for the White House strategy to paint Dems as weak on terrorism. However, a Ned Lamont win…well…that’s a horse of a different color.

The latest rumor concerns money from the White House that was supposedly funnelled through GOP donors to Lieberman.

From Insight:

A senior GOP source said the money was part of Deputy White House Chief of Staff Karl Rove’s strategy to maintain a Republican majority in the Senate in November. The source said Mr. Rove, together with Republican National Committee Chairman Ken Mehlman, directed leading pro-Bush contributors to donate millions of dollars to Mr. Lieberman’s campaign for re-election in Connecticut in an attempt that he would be a “Republican-leaning” senator.

“Joe [Lieberman] took the money but said he would not play ball,” the source said. “That doesn’t mean that this was a wasted investment.”

Now, let me ask everybody this…if the GOP wants Lieberman to win, why in the hell would they ever let this information out? The short answer is because they want him to lose. Pure and simple. From the White House not endorsing the GOP candidate in this race and now onto this story, Rove and company have made it transparently clear that they can’t have a strong moderate Democrat win this race because it would complete undermine their strategy to use their broad “weak on terrorism” brush.

Something also tells me that this is going to be one of many such revelations from GOP insiders about Lieberman getting cozy with the White House.

My advice? Don’t believe the hype.

    Justin,

I couldn’t agree more…this is a classic counter intuitive ploy by Rove. They have had their sights on this Connecticut race for some time and the only way it serves their interest in the midterm election is if they can use it to portray the Democratic Party as weak on terror and being pulled further left by candidates like Ned Lamont.

I would expect to see more of the same from the GOP now that we are in the final phase of the campaign. Should be an interesting two months.

I don’t think voters in other states care about this race to the point where it would affect who they vote for. Most voters barely have knowledge or interest in their own local races, much less races in distant states. Do I think Bush is trying to cozy up to Lieberman? Of course! Lieberman is the de-facto Republican candidate. Schlessinger is a non-starter. A victory for Lieberman will be seen as a victory for Bush and a vindication of neoconservative policies. Let’s not get confused here. Lieberman is Bush’s proxy. A vote for Lieberman is a vote for Bush.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Silly rabbit, mind tricks are for kids. Could it possibly be they “let this information out” to sucker independents into believing Holy Joe is not a “bought and paid for lackey of the GOP”??

    The money speaks for itself.
