Huckabee’s Alarming Theo-Con Rhetoric

He may be a likable guy, but he has been saying all the wrong things lately.

From Raw Story:

The United States Constitution never uses the word “God” or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from “We the People.” However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it’s time to put an end to that.

“I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution,” Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. “But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that’s what we need to do — to amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than try to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view.”

I really think that at this point Huckabee just won’t be palatable to the base as a viable nominee. He has gone too far towards a religious state and the charm is dwindling quickly. But what about a VP candidate? Somehow I think that could potentially work, but not without consequences of turning off independents and moderate Republicans who don’t like Bush.

Conclusion: Huckabee is done.

Hmmmm….trying to amend the constitution to do something that is blatently unconstitutional, interesting. I gues the old Huckster missed the establishment clause, huh?

The problem is, I think Huckabee’s *NOT* done. In fact, I don’t think this campaign is hurting his campaign for the Republican nomination. He could still be nominated. However, I think if the Republicans nominate him there will be a huge, huge, huge, huge landslide for the Democratic nominee, whoever it is, if Huckabee is nominated.

But it doesn’t matter, since I think right here right now that McCain will be nominated. All of Guiliani’s people went to McCain, and that’s enough to get him the edge.
