Gallup: Hillary Leads By 4

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Barack, Democrats, Hillary, Polls

This is the first time she has had a lead of more than 1 point since early March. The constant media barrage that Hillary can come back and Reverend Wright popping his head up yet again have really hurt him.

More details…

Obama has had a rough few weeks in the campaign, with his widely publicized remarks about “bitter” voters, Clinton’s decisive win in the crucial Pennsylvania primary, and renewed media attention to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the controversial former pastor of Obama’s church, with Wright speaking out publicly this past week. Obama has also come under criticism from both Clinton and John McCain for opposing a proposal to suspend the federal gasoline tax during the summer months.

As a result, Obama has moved from a consistent lead over Clinton to a deficit. Obama has just a few days to reverse the tide going into next Tuesday’s Indiana and North Carolina primaries.

Definitely a tough stretch for Obama, but we’ve seen him bounce back before. And again, it’s Hillary who needs landslide victories in ALL of the remaining states to catch up.

You certainly seem to read more into this poll (the Gallup daily tracking) that anyone else I know of. The fact is this has been in the margin of error for over a week and remains in that margin of error. Statistically speaking, nothing has changed.

The other thing is that Senator Clinton only “needs landslide victories in ALL of the remaining states to catch up” in the elected count. She probably gave up on that game a month ago, and is now just hoping that she can successfully show superdelegates that Obama’s unelectable. The last two weeks have shown that such an argument could gain real salience for them.

And PS: What is portrayed in Donklephant’s new favicon? I can’t make sense of it.

The little favicon is Mr. Earth, a little toy I’ve encountered and think is fun.

    Concerning your other points…

I just don’t think Clinton is going to swing the supers like that. Doesn’t make sense. They don’t want her. And the mistakes Obama is making are hurting, but nowhere nearly as severe as the Clintons are making them out to be.

About the Gallup poll…it’s a trend indicator so it could spell real problems for him going into next Tuesday’s contests. So we’ll see if that’s the case and if you need to pay more attention to it in the future. :-)

So it is a globe-man with a part of his face gone. All is a little bit clearer now.
