With leaners
Obama – 51%
McCain – 45%

Without leaners
Obama – 48%
McCain – 43%

Lots of activity the past couple days in the prez race, and since Obama’s numbers have started to inch up past the 50% mark, perhaps the news about Palin is making people nervous.

One note, this the first time in the Rasmussen poll that Obama has hit the 51% mark. Before that he hit 50% back in early June in a head to head against McCain.

So why the stronger support? Obama is now getting pretty much the same % of Dems supporting him that McCain has, and since more voters than ever before say claim Democrat as their party ID this season it’ll mean a wider margin if he simply reaches parity with McCain…

Obama has strengthened his support among Democrats and now attracts the vote from 85% of those within his party. Eighty-six percent (86%) of Republicans support McCain.

The 5 day w/leaners:
09/02/2008: McCain – 45%, Obama – 51%
09/01/2008: McCain – 46%, Obama – 49%
08/31/2008: McCain – 46%, Obama – 49%
08/30/2008: McCain – 45%, Obama – 49%
08/29/2008: McCain – 45%, Obama – 49%

The 5 day w/o leaners:
09/02/2008: McCain – 43%, Obama – 48%
09/01/2008: McCain – 44%, Obama – 47%
08/31/2008: McCain – 44%, Obama – 47%
08/30/2008: McCain – 43%, Obama – 47%
08/29/2008: McCain – 43%, Obama – 46%

More tomorrow…

(Sorry folks, I had the numbers for “with leaners” transposed. Fixed. Obama leads.)

OBAMA ON NATIONAL DEFENSE: MAKE NICE AND HOPE FOR THE BEST!

Say what you wish about the Democrats, but they do certainly learn from past mistakes such as McGovern’s promise to crawl on his hands and knees to Hanoi to achieve a peace at any price. Now they use subterfuge and nuanced comments to lull Americans into stupefaction.

    Quoted from Obama’s website:

On Iraq: “Here is the truth: fighting a war without end will not force the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future. And fighting in a war without end will not make the American people safer.” (He devotes all of 7 lines to the war in Iraq, a war which definitely HAS an end thanks to Bush’s “surge” which Obama opposed.)

On Negotiating: “Obama is willing to meet with the leaders of all nations, friend and foe. He will do the careful preparation necessary, but will signal that America is ready to come to the table.” (This is the same Obama who said that he didn’t need any “preparations” and that there would be no preconditions for him to negotiate with America’s enemies.)

On Israel: “Obama …will make a sustained push…

Er I think you got the names swapped on the With Leaners numbers.

Definitely need to get those names straight on the “with leaners” numbers, ’cause I definitely misread the stats at first. I don’t think this is the first time I’ve seen this problem, either.
