Minecraft Switch vs. Wii U – FPS and Dimensions Comparison

During a livestream by Microsoft, a few of the developers of the Minecraft: Switch Edition have revealed some information in regards to their next title. The newest iteration of the sandbox building game will be able to run at 60 frames per second and will apparently be approximately 13 times bigger than its Wii U counterpart. On top of this, you will also be able to transfer worlds from your Wii U to the Nintendo Switch.

As a comparison, PlayStation Vita’s version of Minecraft runs at around 25 FPS which made it playable, but nowhere near an enjoyable experience for the modern day gamer. The Switch has much better hardware which will permit the game to run at much smoother frame rates than its counterparts.

Not only will we see increases in frames per second, but also the game world will be much expanded. On the Wii U, the maximum size of the world was around 864 x 864, while Minecraft:Switch edition will allow you to make a 3072 x 3072 world.

To give you a bit of perspective, 3072 x 3072 is classified as a medium sized world for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version of Minecraft, who are able to run the game at 5120 x 5120 size. Despite the claims of high-performance from the developers, we do not know how exactly the game will run when it’s off the Switch dock.

The developers have also mentioned that the game will only be on par with the update in January, however, it will catch up quickly with the over versions once its released.

In regards to the worlds transfer feature, it will not be available at launch but will be released shortly afterwards.
