Bush’s Recess Appointments…Why?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in General Politics, The War On Terrorism

Jeezus…not again. Why is he doing recess appointments for people who are in the Defense and Homeland Security Departments?

One word: arrogrance. Here’s a guy who hasn’t been held accountable for any of his bad decisions over the years, and now it’s becoming obvious that he feels he can do whatever he pleases.

More from Bloomberg…

The president appointed Gordon England as deputy secretary of Defense and Julie L. Myers as assistant secretary of Homeland Security for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, among other positions. The appointments, made while lawmakers are in recess, will last until a new Congress convenes in January 2007.

“Each of these individuals are highly qualified,” said Erin Healy, a White House spokeswoman. “These are critical positions that can no longer go unoccupied.”

Also among those appointed by Bush today were Benjamin Powell as general counsel in the office of the director of national intelligence and Tracy A. Henke as Executive Director of the Office of State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness at the Department of Homeland Security;

You think he would have learned by now. Oh well, if there’s no oversight of these hires, then the blame rests squarely on his shoulders if these people screw up. Maybe this is his version of “The Buck Stops Here?” Oh, but wait…there is no buck and there is no stopping…only baiting and spinning.

So, seriously, is this what you get with a Republican majority? Few checks or balances? Or is this what you get when any party has a majority?

I mean, even Michelle Malkin and Daily Kos are agreeing on this one!
