Mark Penn: Red State Democrats? Insignificant!!!

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election, Democrats, Dumb Things Said By Smart People

This one is a gem…

“Could we possibly have a nominee who hasn’t won any of the significant states — outside of Illinois?” Chief Strategist Mark Penn said. “That raises some serious questions about Sen. Obama.”

At last count, Hill has won 13 states (including Michigan and Florida, which technically shouldn’t count) and Obama has won about 23 (I think, it may be higher). Regardless of the actual count on Obama’s side, that makes AT LEAST 22 insignificant states Obama has won besides Illinois.

And I take specific issue with this because I live in a state the Clinton campaign said was very important (Missouri), but then dismissed after they lost….which is just so tacky.

I’m sorry, but why isn’t Mark Penn fired yet?

But let’s be real Justin. I lived in Kansas City for five years. Missouri really is insignificant.

    MW,
That’s cause you lived in KC.

In non-KC bashing, Missouri is still the leading indicator of who wins the presidency so it is still important.

    Well. It’s better than Kansas.
