you people that worry about what other people are doing need to GET A FREAKIN LIFE !!!!!!!!! its pretty rediculouse that you anti abortionists have nothing better to do than sit around and complain and talk trash about other people and im positive that none of you bible thumping church going hipocrits are completly innocent of doing wrong at sum points in your lives it makes me sick to know that theres actually people out there wasting time protesting and acting stupid over abortions its a persons right to do whatever they feel necessary with their lives if it wasent for abortion clinics in sum cases families with existing children would suffer due to the bringing of another child into a family by accident and birth control doesent always work trust me !!!!! anyways why dont you people focus on something important like child molesters and rapists now theres a good cause to get involved in how bout those poor women who have been raped by sum scum bag that just got out of jail for the same thing and rapes again and she ends up pregnent how would you idiots feel if it happened to you and you had to raise that basterd child FOOD FOR THOUGHT !!!!!! so all you time wasters need to go get a JOB or a second one and use up your free time more efficiently instead of bothering the world with your ignorent pointless little bull crap and go save a bug or something im sorry if i offend anyone but you all need a dose of reality and im sure this speach wont change nuthin but i feel better saying it anyway lol

Jim S — I knew George for 37 years as a parent’s colleague and a family friend. The mainstream pro-life protesters never bothered him much unless they were vandalizing the place or annoying/assaulting/blocking his patients. He respected their convictions (though obviously not sharing them) and the way they managed to mostly keep their demonstrations peaceful and legal despite the loonie fringers. Not that he WANTED them there, but he accepted their protests as genuine and respected that their method was peaceful and within the law.

The radical in-your-face DIE DEMON DIE nutburgers brethren, OTOH, he was justifiably wary of. Being bombed and shot will do that to you. OpRescue is scum, and their sorrowful statement after spending years stalking him and encouraging others to stalk him and his clinic personnel is pure BS. The guy who did this was one of the OR crowd, a true whackjob in more ways than one who was part of more than one deep-fried nutburger group.

Yeah, I remember we did talk about our respective “clinic time” once. You told me about the fun of working for PP, I told you about the joys of running an outpatient clinic that mostly served AIDS patients during the so-called Summer of Mercy. When my clinic was briefly picketed that summer by some of the loonie fringe (’cause gays are sinners doomed to Hell and we were delaying God’s Judgement on some by keeping them alive for a few extra months–AIDS was a genuine death sentence then with a very short and hopeless appeals process) George called me up and said “I don’t want to hear you complaining. You got thirty for an afternoon, I’ve got three thousand for the whole summer!” It was nice of him to take those few minutes to cheer me up with a shot of humor, when he was in the eye of the storm and we were just getting sprinkled on a bit. Well, comparitively, anyway.

I hadn’t seen him much in recent years–he was understandably wary of being out in public–but he was a genuinely kind and gentle man who deeply believed in serving his patients and who refused to be intimidated.

Ah, Tully, sometimes we can agree completely on something, can’t we? Did we ever talk about when I was the IT department for Planned Parenthood of Greater Kansas City? There just aren’t that many jobs where you can come in some mornings and find office windows shot out, have the office air conditioning units sabotaged and have to evacuate the building because of bomb threats. You can imagine what the protestors said to me because they thought I was a doctor.

Those who perform abortions are baby killers.
Baby Killers must be stopped at all costs
Therefore all who believe that abortionists are baby killers must agree that Tillers “execution” was justified.
Some Abortion opponents are trying to say that they do not approve of violence or murder to stop abortionists.
Yet who would stand by and watch his neighbors kids being murdered and not take action…violent action??

I’m sure that abortionists nationwide are thinking “Maybe it’s time to get into another business.”

Markg8–You’re part of the problem. As is every damn extremist who thinks the solution to their issues is the violent death of those who think differently than them. Seek psychiatric help.

George Tiller was a courageous and dedicated man, completely devoted to serving his patients despite having been assaulted, bombed, shot, and continually threatened and picketed for the last thirty years. Even if you believe what he did was evil, no impartial observer could credibly claim that George did not deeply believe he was doing the right thing for those who came to him, and that he was willing to risk his life every single day on their behalf.

People don’t do that for money. They do it from conviction. His dedication was as sincere as it could possibly be, and he proved it continually. And there is little doubt he was murdered for it–as he long suspected he would be.

And people wonder why I am so opposed to the “Death to the Other!” rhetoric coming from so many quarters nowadays, regardless of which side it’s coming from or on which issue. Because this is the predictable result of such rhetoric. Unbalanced people being so fired up that they convince themselves that their cause justifies doing anything against the Other.

I knew a woman who got a late-term abortion because pre-natal tests showed that the fetus was acephalic and had spinal bifida. It took her years to recover from this heart-break. Being forced to carry this nonviable fetus to term and then push it out her birth canal after it reached full size would have made her feel so much better, I’m sure.

It’s terrorism and it will continue I guess until someone shoots Bill O’Reilly, Randall Terry, and James Dobson in both arms (1993 attack on Tiller), bombs their offices (1986), blockades their offices (1991), cuts the wires to their office security systems, chops holes in their roofs and plugs up the drainage system, (last month), mounts protests at their churches, homes, and offices (repeatedly) and finally walks into the vestibules of their respective churches while they’re serving as ushers handing out church bulletins, with their wives upstairs singing in the choir, and shoots them to death, evidently in the face so that witnesses will have to tell the police who the victims are, just like Tiller.

Then maybe, just maybe, the kind of disgusting violent rhetoric by the likes of these goons against doctors like Tiller who perform legal abortions will cease.
