Limbaugh Suggests Oil Spill Caused By Environmentalists?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in Energy, Environment, Palin, Partisan Hacks

Hey, if he’s right, shame on them. Well, more than shame on them. They should spend their lives in prison for all of the destruction they’ve caused.

But for some reason…I don’t think folks who have spent their lives defending the environment would deliberately cause one of the worst environmental disasters in our lifetime just to get legislation passed that they felt was inherently compromised.

Call it a hunch.

In any event…the Rush…

I want to get back to the timing of the blowing up, the explosion out there in the Gulf of Mexico of this oil rig. … Now, lest we forget, ladies and gentlemen, the carbon tax bill, cap and trade, that was scheduled to be announced on Earth Day. I remember that. And then it was postponed for a couple of days later after Earth Day, and then of course immigration has now moved in front of it. But this bill, the cap-and-trade bill, was strongly criticized by hardcore environmentalist wackos because it supposedly allowed more offshore drilling and nuclear plants, nuclear plant investment. So, since they’re sending SWAT teams down there, folks, since they’re sending SWAT teams to inspect the other rigs, what better way to head off more oil drilling, nuclear plants, than by blowing up a rig? I’m just noting the timing here.

Yeah, just noting the timing…sure…

Seems like the right wing is trading in many conspiracy theories these days and none of them have any validity whatsoever. But that doesn’t stop them from making them and trying to convince their followers that they should always question everything except what they say.

By the way, genuine props to Sarah Palin for her post about this tragedy. It was a serious response to what happened and regardless of her “drill baby drill” attitude, I applaud the seriousness with which she addressed this situation.

    Truly, he has a dizzying intellect.

    not that i want to go on record agreeing with a limbaugh sentiment, but i was thinking the same thing.

    i mean, how long after the explosion did it take for us to find out it was one of the worst environmental disasters of all time? a while. because it just kept getting worse and worse beyond what was expected.

    if it was greenpeace guerillas, i’m sure they had no expectation of that either. just thought they’d cause a little ruckus, maybe a small spill, and people would sour on offshore drilling for a while.

    as far as palin goes… whatever. even a broken clock blahblahblah.

    It’s hard to imagine a bunch of hippies in a Zodiac doing this kind of damage to an oil rig. Aren’t they protected against terrorists and such things? Now, an elite team of Blackwater Special Operatives, on the other hand …

    What a load of sh!t.

    I’d like to see some evidence before blaming environmentalists, but the logic is very possible. Quite a few years ago, we had a rash of arson fires from ELF. (http://legacy.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20030920-9999_1n20fires.html) Now what they accomplished, I never understood. They burned hundreds of board feet of timber, wasting the resource and releasing carbon into the atmosphere in the process. The developers rebuilt and moved on using twice the lumber they originally needed. Unfortunately, sabotage of the oil rig is well within the realm of possible.

    You mean her “Oh gee, this makes me sad but we should keep drilling anyway” position?

    Jesus. You’re more retarded than her kid. Nice job of straddling the issue but you shouldn’t be taken anymore seriously than her.

    Some random antecdote you pulled out of your ass makes this “well within the realm of possible”?

    This was a simple old blowout. There have been thousands of them over the years. The 50′ high, 430-ton blowout preventer didn’t work. Anybody who thinks it was something different might want to present some evidence, inlcuding the idiotic drug addict on the radio.

    Limbaugh is getting to be a nut, but some people will believe anything.

  9. Shane Says:

    @DB,

    You and I are in agreement, let us see evidence first. It was the first line of my original comment. You are also probably right that this will end up being a human or mechanical malfunction. The investigation that will undoubtedly follow should tell us more.

    As for the “random antecdote [sic] you pulled out of your ass”, I picked that because I lived down the street at the time and remember it fairly well. However, if you want plural, read away….

    About broken clocks…this is true, but I give credit where it’s due…even to hacks like Palin. :-)

    @Shane
    Yeah, didn’t make much sense then and wouldn’t make much sense now. So while it’s within the realm of possibilities, folks like Rush float nonsense like this out there so his listeners will just take the ball and run with it via silent channels like email, etc. He knows what he’s doing and it disgusting.

    @TBogg
    Hey buddy, it’s been a while! Thanks for stopping by! Want a Zima?

  11. kranky kritter Says:

    “Within the realm of the possible” is not a condition that requires proof, TBogg. It’s so irritating when one person carefully chooses accurate words and then some flamethrowing moron just ignores their meaning.

    Personally, I am extremely skeptical of environmentalist terrorism here simply because of the level of planning and means that would have been required. Malfunction is obviously the most likely cause.

    Let me agree wholeheartedly with the idea that people should have some real evidence before suggesting astonishing evil conspiracies. If you want to speculate that some remarkable evil plot has occurred, you should always follow up by saying that you are only speculating and have no direct evidence, if that’s the case.

    It’s a really sound principle. And it would apply whether you were wondering about ELF blowing up an oil rig, or wondering about whether the Bush admin intentionally faked the evidence of WMD in Iraq.

    I understand that people love to speculate and that they harbor dark suspicions about people they distrust and whose politics they hate. But if you don’t have direct evidence, it’s your responsibility to say that you are only speculating.

  12. Wetland Oil Clean Up Says:

    Accidents happen….but the ones who should get put to the fire are the people that said this could never happen and did not plan for the possibility that it could happen. Thus no real relief in sight, let just try a bunch of stuff and maybe that will work….nice plan….NOT!

  13. Ben Woodens Says:

    This is ridiculous at best… what are they thinking? Sure… go spill oil everywhere and then let everyone pretty much get away with it!!?

  14. Paul Synkle Says:

    Ha! Just making note of the timing he says. That’s funny. Just another wacko conspiracy theorist if you ask me.
