Gingrich Forecasts Ron Paul Nomination?

By Justin Gardner | Related entries in 2008 Election

Take a look at the following and tell me if Ron Paul isn’t the only nominee that Newt describes…

WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican Newt Gingrich, in a jab at President Bush, warned on Friday that the GOP will lose the White House and Congress in 2008 if the nominee is perceived as a continuation of the Bush presidency.

Addressing a conservative organization, the former House Speaker never mentioned the president by name, but his political point was clear.

“If the Republicans run a stand-pat presidential candidate who ends up being on defense for all of September and October and who is seen by the country as representing four more years, the fact is that Republicans are not going to” win, Gingrich told the American Enterprise Institute.

Newt probably thought that “being on defense” meant apologizing for Bush’s missteps, but I think those words could speak to something far more interesting. Because, honestly, what Republican is going to back down from Bush’s post-9/11 defense stance? Anybody you can think of?

And furthermore, who will back down from his spending habits? Who will take positions that are consistent with true conservative ideology?

I can think of only one candidate, and oddly enough it isn’t Newt.

Want more proof?

In a glimpse of what his candidacy might look like, he said he would shut down public schools that aren’t performing and offer a $20 billion reward for the first private company that successfully completes a Mars mission.

“Somebody would be there and back about 40 percent of the way into the NASA process,” he said.

Yeah…those are big ideas.

In any event, for those who read this site on a regular basis know, I’ve been talking a lot about Ron Paul lately. It’s not becuase I necessarily endorse the man, but I certainly think he’s one of the most exciting things to happen to the Republican party in the last 20 years.

In any event, keep talking Newt. You may just predict the future yet.

Newt thinks he is talking about himself, but he is as likely to win the general election as Paul is to win the nomination.

There is an undeclared GOP prospect who fits Newt’s description even better than Paul – that is Chuck Hagel. He has the additional benefit of being capable of actually winning for the GOP in November of 2008.

That is exactly the way I took it when I seen Newt’s comments. Dr. Ron Paul is the only guy who can bring RP/DP/CP/IP together and beat Clinton or Osama

  5. conrad Says:

Ron Paul is the only candidate who can save the Republican party.

  6. Dan Warner Says:

I am a republican, and I KNOW that the republicans CANNOT win on a pro war, pro big spending platform. It seems to me that the party wants to implode and let the democrats take the blame for awhile. Maybe this is the plan… Let someone else clean up the mess while they hide the money that is ‘unaccounted for’ in war spending.

I think that Ron Paul could debate rings around anyone running for the dems or repubs, period. This is an intelligent guy (not a puppet) who says what he thinks and means what he says. Look up his voting record and you will soon see that he is not a politician, but a representative of the people, and is ‘the champion of the constitution’.

One thing I do know, Dr. Paul has a powerful message and some fresh air is blowing across the country. Some people are getting a whif and yearn for more.

  7. Phil Says:

Newt thinks he’s introducing himself….But, Ron Paul’s THE MAN.
No other candidate like him…in either party. He is interested in liberty for his countrymen…the people of America should love him.

  8. AngelaTC Says:

Newt has too much baggage. And he’s corrupted by big money and power. I don’t hate him, but he’s not the best choice. Hagel declared that he is not running.

Looking at Giuliani’s NYC legacy frightens me. I honestly believe that Ron Paul is America’s last hope to be the land of the free.

America needs Ron Paul. Bush has trampled on our liberty. He suspended Habeas Corpus for the first time since the civil war… and what does Gonzales say ? That habeas corpus was never really part of the constitution! Wow, what a great justification. Stop the Bush Corruption. Thats right, I said it, corruption!

  10. Joel Lemieux Says:

What Ron Paul needs most is “Money” I’m using this and it is working very well… consider it… Everyone can afford it!!!

Cynicism and defeatism are NOT options to be entertained.
“We are in the eleventh hour of losing this Nation…”

Consider the only Conservative Presidential Candidate…

Welcome my name is: Joel Lemieux I am retired and currently live in the beautiful mountains of Western NC… I Have been an avid supporter of Dr Ron Paul… “We have to get Ron Paul elected, firstly and foremost, in the primaries”… Then on to the Presidency!!!

However, if this is to come about (Ron Paul 2008) we will require a war chest… We are attempting to get (1) one Million people to send Ron Paul only $7.00 each per Month… Thanks… Joel…

    Our Only Choice!!! Leadership 2008

Can Ron Paul Win? On The Issues – A Resounding YES!

Knowing this let us then look at the most important benefit… that Ron Paul brings to the Presidency…

    “Leadership”

Leadership is Action Through *Example Not Position…

(It is not a position of power nor being in the right place at the right time, neither define leadership).

It is defined by setting the example through taking action on such Leadership Traits as Truthfulness! Honesty! Fidelity!

Ron Paul Has Acted Admirably On All These Leadership Traits:

“Truthfulness first and foremost… Then: Principle, Integrity, Honesty,* Fidelity (to their oaths), Honor, Virtue, Compassion, Courage, Vision, Wisdom and Faith.

    DARE TO COMPARE

Can anyone bring forth any other candidate (GOP or DEM, etc.) that can lay claim to all of these characteristics?

I believe we are all hard pressed to do so… “Strike Thatâ€Â?. I “KNOW” we ARE hard pressed!

Check out this site it may give you some promo assistance… It has a promo area where everything can be printed out for free… It also has “send to friends” area for e-mailing… Hope this helps you …

    http://leadership2008.bravehost.com

Get the word out “SHARE” with your friends… And don’t forget the $7 per Month “we all can afford that” remember each of us do not need to get thousands of people… just set a weekly goal and have any/all of your friends duplicate your efforts… It will be persistence and perseverance that will elect Ron Paul…

PS: Start with flyers at the Universities put one on each and every bulletin board on campus also look for support from the student GOP… Then have them go to other campus’s… Also, don’t forget High School Seniors- by the time elections roll around they will be old enough to vote!

    Jimmy,

I’m not going to lie and say the traffic isn’t a nice bonus, but here’s a guy who’s basically running on a 3rd party platform and he’s getting some major grassroots buzz. Plus, he’s apparently raising a bunch of money and could provide a shock to the system when numbers come out in a little under a month.

My gut tells me that he’d never win the Republican nomination, but could he be a pick for the Unity ticket and run as a viable 3rd party candidate? Something tells me it’s a distinct possibility.

I don’t know, maybe you’re forgeting what kind of political site you’re on. :-)

  15. Proud American Says:

Not sure if that is what he means or not. Doesn’t matter. Congressman Paul has raised A LOT of MONEY now. They can’t ignore him or his support. We do exist, and we are talking. Ron Paul will be the NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

How is it that if someone is a Ron Paul supporter,… they are called Spammers, or treated as if they are imaginary? Yet, if the same were done for Clinton, Obama, Rudy or Romney, then it’s considered downright grassroots support.

If you don’t like Ron Paul, don’t vote for him.
If you do, Send him money, Vote for him, and tell the world.

Shout it from every hillside, Post it on every blog.

I dont care if you like him or not,… if you dont vote for him you’re wasting your vote.

Ron Paul is the only candidate the republicans have that could beat Hillary Clinton. It would be the sweetest thing in the world to have an independent presidential ticket like Paul/Gravel or Paul/Kucinich. I’m sick of both parties; the Democrats because they won’t do as they’re told and the Republicans because they won’t even listen, are compromised by theological issues, and on the wrong path in both foreign and domestic policy. Paul gets my vote – ballot on not.

but I certainly think he’s one of the most exciting things to happen to the Republican party in the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, if politics doesn’t change any in the next year, that is EXACTLY why he could be lost in the shuffle.

I will be donating to his campaign and I am going to be a MAJOR flyer-pusher myself for RP… I love his ideas.

  29. sleipner Says:

I think he has some interesting ideas, but I think he’d be terrifying in charge…many of his ideas are reasonable (and some even really good), but some of the rest are ridiculously dangerous, and could destabilize much of the country and economy.

Of course it would be nigh unto impossible for him (or anyone else) to be worse than the current moron-in-charge.

  30. Jim S Says:

So far as I can tell Ron Paul wants to eliminate roughly 90% of the government. One quote from him is this one from August 2005.

What programs can we cut? What agencies and departments should go? A better question is: What should stay on a permanent basis? That’s easy: only those functions specifically outlined in the Constitution. Is foreign aid allowed by the Constitution? No. Is public housing in the Constitution? No. Is federal involvement in education? No. Are the EPA, OSHA, and the BATF? No. Is protecting our borders? Yes.

So there would be no social programs as well. Not one. Should the federal government not support these programs they would vanish from the states as well or at least shrink to being so small that the social safety net might as well not exist. So the practical consequences of a nation where Ron Paul and his supporters actually got their way would be that if it didn’t work out to where private charities had the money needed to help those in poverty you would see massive homelessness and starvation.

There would also be such a patchwork of environmental regulation that the environment would suffer tremendously. In the real world you would get the equivalent of banks going to states that don’t regulate financial institutions. There would be states that would not regulate pollution because of financial considerations. These states would attract business. But of course their pollution wouldn’t stay in their state. And nothing would stop it from happening in Ron Paul’s world where the federal government is only responsible for security and interstate law enforcement.

How many people who like Ron Paul really understand the implications of a modern nation and economy trying to go back to the gold standard? Of what it would really mean in the international economic markets that we must exist within if we did not have a Federal Reserve?

It seems to me that the strongest supporters of Ron Paul are those who understand least about how truly complex our modern world is and how little simplistic answers will ever contribute to it.

  31. MK Says:

I wish the American people will wake up and realize that everything Ron Paul talks about is the truth. He is attacked by the other GOP candidates BECAUSE HE TELLS THE TRUTH.

I wish with all my heart that Ron Paul becomes the next president. But I do not have hope. As Iron Maiden says: “You’re outnumbered by the bastards till the day you die.”

  32. Jim S Says:

What truth is that, MK? That all we have to do is eliminate the federal government and all our problems would go away?

  33. Chris S Says:

Don’t be scared lefties, Paul does not have the mentality of the “unitary executive” and is willing to comprimise. He has stated that he understands your entitlement mentality and your reliance on the state nipple to solve the problems you don’t want to take time away from The Sopranos to think about or donate to.

Paul and Kucinich are BFFs when it comes to the war, and Paul stated that if he wins, he will bring the troops home, cut military spending and the Military Industrial Complex, apply it towards the deficit, and then we can talk about entitlements. He is more interested in tackling things that are considered putrid and disgusting to all Americans, the war, taxes, spending.

    http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig7/davis4.html

“CD: Congressman Dennis Kucinich is kind of similar in that he is one of the more vocal antiwar critics on the Democratic side of the debates. I know you guys probably disagree on a load of things, but you’ve come together a lot to work on issues of war and peace. So could you talk about your relationship with Congressman Kucinich over the past couple years, what it’s been like, what you think of him?

RP: We’re close friends, and we certainly agree [on the war]. And I think we may end up voting closely all the time on the war issue. Sometimes some of these funding bills are a little bit complex, and even Walter Jones and I will disagree even though we agree on what we’re supposed to be doing, but the interpretation will be a little bit different. But I think Dennis and I usually come down on the same side of it. That is, if you don’t want the war you quit the funding, and that’s our responsibility and it’s not the president’s authority to do what he wants because we have the purse strings, so you have to vote against the spending. So we get along very well on that, and since it’s such a major issue I think I will continue to work with him the best we can. And you know, take some of the liberal welfare spending that Dennis might support more than I. But you know, I’m not hostile toward that. If I can save the money from overseas, put some of it against the deficit, end up with a net reduction in the size of the budget, at the same time stopping a war, I may well be very open to funding some of these programs. Because I’m not out to gut some of these programs that have taught people to be very dependant on the government, like medical care. I mean, that’s not my goal. I’ve never run for office with the goal of slashing [those programs] even though philosophically I don’t think it’s the best way to deliver services and prosperity to poor people.

CD: So can we look forward to a Paul-Kucinich 2008 ticket?

RP: Not likely, but I think that Paul and Kucinich will continue to work together and do the kind of work that we’ve been doing for a couple years now.”

Kucinich has had a lot of good things to say about Paul as well. Paul is not a “totalitarian decider”. You want someone who won’t bend and will be the next Stalin, look no further then Ghouliani…

You act like this guy doesn’t know how to reach across the isle. Look at who he typically sponsors bills with and you’ll see otherwise. You worry too much, if anything he can peel back the layers of slime and give us a fresh plate to work off of, or at least one with a lot less stink and rot.

  34. Jim Satterfield Says:

    Chris S,

Thank you for reminding me of another negative of Ron Paul. The mentality of his supporters. Your first paragraph shows what jackasses they are.

  35. Nick Says:

Jim, was Chris’s first paragraph not accurate? Mean spirited, well, if you’re think skinned I guess, but overall it seemed to be at least accurate.

Remember this: Government programs developed to help the poor average a net benefit to those needy folks of 30% of the department budgets that are designed to help them. They also rely on the benevolent distribution of the state. Conversely, private charities average between 70-95% direct benefit to the people they are designed to help. If you want proof, ask any Hurricane Katrina victim who helped more, the Red Cross or the city, state, and federal governments?

As for Chris’s attitude, well maybe he’s just pissed off at having almost half his income taken every year to be wasted by government types. Hostile? Maybe he’d rather donate to the charity of his choice. I know I would. One could argue that the mentality of lefties is that of crybabies and whiners. They, too, piss me off.
